I found this Johnson guitar. I have a johnson distortion pedal but i never seen their guitars. They have this guitar, a Js-330 Catalyst. They claim it comes with and original floyd rose. List price is only 299.99. And it is $244 online. Is this possible?? Doesnt an ofr cost 170 alone? Plus it's gold. They must be lying.

from : localhost/dont see the stamp of Floyd Rose on the trem so I think they aren't really Floyds, maybe licensed.

I very much doubt it's really 'quilted maple' and 'mother of pearl' too... more like, foto-flame and mother of toilet seat.

Hey Matt, no need to be so... you know. Some weeks ago I tried a Johnson Tele-copy for $200. It had a real flame-maple fretboard w/ a deep figure. There are lots of old forests in China, they mainly cut costs w/ electronics. Chinese electronics suck. But the guitars are very well-constructed sometimes. There's plenty of inconsistency at Johnson, so there are several gems outside as well. Brand name doesn't prove anything for me. Yesterday I tried a signature (don't know which) SG and the fretwork was a piece of junk.

This one for instance, has a flame-maple top, not quilted. I found this at a shop. I'll ask them whether that's a real flame.
It aint a real OFR, check out the big pic, there isnt a floyd stamp on it, and you can make out writing that looks like the quot;licensed under floyd patentsquot; that goes along with licensed units.

But...yeah. Flame top is probably real, just very, very thin. Mother of toilet-seat is a definate possibility though.

So they're not really lying about the whole floyd thing...just...misleading people while not telling the whole truth. Which is pretty much lawyer-speak for lying. Only now its legal.

They are, surprisingly nice guitars though . . . after a few tweaks.
This is my Johnson Strat:It was around $120. The tuners worked, but needed changing, and I added a couple extra springs to the tremolo claw, (plus, tightened down the claw.) Slapped some SD's in it, and this baby rocks!

Solid alder body, true 3-ply pickguard, nice deep sunburst. It blows my boys Squier away for quality, and sounds killer to boot. (Now with SD's.)

btw - the original EMG designed pups were surprisingly good also. I just wanted SD's.

I have a Johnson dealer close by. If I get a chance, I'll swing by and see if they stock the Catalyst.

Yup, I've just asked the shop about the pic below. They told me it was a real flame top, only 2 mm's thick, though. They haven't written me about the inlay yet.
