I was thinking about getting a dimebucker. What do you all think about them? Are they good for lead and crunching out on some cords.
a friend of mine who plays HEAVY progressive metal put one in a few weeks ago and loves it. he plays thru a xxx and 1960bv cab and says the tone absolutly crushes.
its a great pup. sounds good if your riffing or soloing
I am personally disapointed with the dimebucker. I think it has a very bad and boosted treble to it and it is VERY crunchy like a damn buzz saw. The leads dont really seem to clean up what so ever. Single notes are all buzz also! If this is your kind of thing, go for it. Personally, I would go a way different route. I think its probally a love it or hate it pickup.
I have a Dime/59n in a Basswood and maple Conklin and it rages. Even with the maple cap, neck and pau ferro board the guitar is far from overly bright. It might have something to do with my Mesa gear but the Dime has great tone and clarity through my rig.
Drop tuned through my Mesa rack with the BBE 482 turned on, the Dime is brutal sounding.
I had a Dime in a basswood Ibanez and it was killer! (I should have kept it.....) Like Robert S. I thought it cleaned up really well and had clarity. I loved it. To me, it has that PAFish vibe but with more bite.

I have been thinking about putting one in the neck of a hacked Paul. Everyone says it would be too bass heavy. But according to this, it might work pretty well! I just keep thinking about making sort of a Les PAul gone Sith - Dimebucker in Neck, FUll Shred Bridge (or perhaps Invader) with 12's tuned down to D. Just something to get EVIL, scare a few bass players, cause a loss of bowel control in the front row. That sort of thing.
Can the dimebucker be split. or can all double coils be split

If it has 4 wires, it can be split. Just look under the product description.
Edit: Hmmm . . . oddly, the product description doesn't say whether or not its 2 or 4 wire.
Fortunately, Guitar Electronics identifies it as 4-wire.
