The big picture is a 3HB guitar. Vintage humbuckers in neck and bridge
positions and something very different in the middle. 5-position rotary
selector to give
neck neck SC with middle SC (humbucking psuedo strat quack) neck and bridge middle SC and bridge SC (another humbucking psuedo strat quack) bridge
The four pots push/pull to provide SC on neck each pickup and allow
middle pickup alone. Note that this gives the SC neck and bridge for
quasi-strat clean, the quack tones and the vintage hummer tones
are obvious, and the middle alone is a bonus which can be pretty
extreme.
Guitars choices :its Epi LP Black Beauty Custom or G-400 Custom (3 Pup SG).
Pickups ideas : APH2, 59 or Jazz in neck and bridge. Stag Mag or JB
in middle. (And I'm awful tempted for doing Phat Cats n and b and
stag mag in the middle...)
Tone wants : jazz, blues, rockabilly, and occasional broken-wah
screaming. (Danny Gatton, Bill Frizell, Robben Ford, Hendrix, Jeff Beck).
Tone don't want : ice-pick, mud.
Concerns : These guitars! The LP might be too much mahogony and the
SG not enough! I thought about doing the whole thing with Firebird VII
with 3 mini buckers but the amount of variety in minibuckers is lower.
Comments : I have had two 335-like guitars with JB in bridge and liked the
heavy mid-spike sound with plenty of harmonics for screaming.
I have had Jazz and Seth Lover in the neck and preferred the Seth for
clean HB sounds, but the Jazz sounds really good, is not microphonic,
and I like using it split. (The guitars were Ibanez AS100 with Seth and JB
and Schecter Jazz-7 with Duncan Designed pups, basically Jazz and JB).
I play through Fender Deluxe 90 and use an amp simulator for distortion
sounds (currently a Tri-A.C.).
Any and all help would be great! Frebnedzo
