What is your favorite truss rod to use? If you want to say why please do.

Hmm, having a truss rod preference seems to be getting pretty nitty gritty . I suppose a double expanding rod is more stable (not as many quot;seasonalquot; adjustments) but I often wonder how much of a tonal difference it can make. I've heard a larger rod can brighten the tone some, but I've never really tested that theory enough to prove or debunk it.Man... this post was chock full of innuendo... larger rods and whatnot .

The idea of the double rod needing less seasonal adjustments is a big 1 for me. My lovely single rod I have right now is always changing, what with the schizophranic climate here.

Double expanding... more stable and needs less seasonal tweaking. I personally like the quot;steelierquot; tone as well.

Seasonal adjustments aren't a huge deal for me (I don't mind having to do it once a month ), except for my Tele. Vintage single truss rods only adjustable at the heel are the worst designs ever.

Double expanding with the adjustment like on Peavey wolfgangs!

i've learned my lesson. i like vintage single acting at the heel or headstock. i got 2 necks made with double acting and they're not bad but there is far too much metal in there IMO not enough wood left. i'm not lazy i can tweak the truss rod 2 times a year or whatever. i rather have better sound and more wood less metal so from now on i'm sticking with the old school single acting for my custom built necks.

Better sounding? I seriously doubt anyone can pick out the type of truss rod used hearing a guitar live or on record.

1000

and once again quot;betterquot; is preference, as we´re talking about tone.... quot;Steelierquot; or quot;less woodyquot; or quot;crisperquot; would have been more fitting adjectives to describe what is unliked about the double expanding rods. THe extra mass contributing to sustain is something I´ll assume most won´t consider quot;badquot; .....

BTW, if you don´t like DE rods because theres quot;nmot enough wood leftquot; or similar, then I recommend that you stay far FAR away from prewar Martins with the large U-beam, even more so avaoid the current ones that have theat U-beam AND an adjusting rod...

I hate it when people say quot;it´s betterquot; but have nothing but the word quot;betterquot; describing the difference.. Essentially says quot;I Like it and you should too, btu I´m not gonna tell you why because I don´t hink you need to know...quot;

for ease sake, an uncovered, single action, tweak-n-go does fine for me.

quot; We've secretly replaced Bob's coffee with Folgers crystalsquot;PRS really did this with thier truss rods.

I had a Warmoth construction neck with double acting rod and thick fingerboard. It was heavy and dead- I could never feel any vibration in the neck, even holding the tip if the headstock. I don't know excactly what did it, but I'm trying a single next.

It could have been the wood itself (actually it probally was)! I have played necks with old school truss rods that were dead and I have played necks with DE rods and they are dead also! I have played both and have played good sounding ones also! Its the wood bro!!!! Some wood just sounds DEAD!!!

Could be... I do like lighter necks, though.

design doesn't matter to me, as long as I can adjust it at the headstock, and Preferably with an allen wrench.

Warmoth is makeing necks now with a quot;side adjustquot; for the truss rods. Its like a weird little thing on the side of the Neck down near the heel. So you don't have the head stock adjust, But ya don't have to take the neck off to make adjustments. It seems like a kool idea. But It also looks like they gotta remove alotta extra wood to put that little adjuster thing in, So I dunno. It seems like it might make the neck less stable. I dunno though. Its still an interesting Idea either way. Never used it though (and I never will).

No, not at all.... you just want it to be adjustable at the head, ideally w/ an allen wrench

Just bustin´ balls, all in fun
