I want to get a wah and am intending to mod either anyway (new inductor and pot for a start) and was wondering whether the Vox (V847 or V848) was better because I've only had the chance to try a Dunlop GCB-95 and it will be the easiest to get.
here the VOX wahs are almost double the Dunlops... so i bought the Dunlop..
the vox im guessing it better int erms of qualty, but keep in mind the vox you emntione di dont think comes with an ac adaptor jack so you have to use batteries.
I think StratDeluxer has said the Voxes are easier to mod ... maybe the input jacks aren't on the board like on the Dunlop
Soundwise the newer Dunlop's with fasel sound just as good as the Vox, but their buffer's suck tone and they aren't TB (but since you're modding yours that shouldn't bother you).
Basically, if you're going to mod your own I wouldn't waist yor money on a Vox; and if you're going to swap the inductor, don't waste your money on a Dunlop w/ Fasel inductor.
Thanks everybody. I forgot to mention I will be doing the true bypass mod as well. The crybaby I tried sounded pretty good and from what I hear about modded wahs it should be pretty cool.
The Vox wah is made by Dunlop also...I prefer the jacks off the board and the Vox pedal is easier to mod and do true bypass on..

the crybaby classic(w/ fasel) i bought is definitely true bypass. the guitar signal will still pass through even w/o a battery or plugged the other way around(plug the guitar on the output) and it sounds very good even better with a hot potz II pot. the only problem is the crappy dpdt switch. it broke only after using it for a few minutes, went to the store exchanged it and same thing happened it broke after using it for a short time so i just ordered a fulltone 3pdt switch and now it works great
Thanks everybody.Originally Posted by STRATDELUXER97The Vox wah is made by Dunlop also...I prefer the jacks off the board and the Vox pedal is easier to mod and do true bypass on..
Hmm the Vox does look better and easier to mod. The only problem is I haven't tried it but it must be good. Anyway 847 or 848?
...Or should I try and find a Rev. D Crybaby so that I don't have to use batteries all the time?
Another option that will save you all the time and money from modding, is to buy a Budda Bud Wah, which was designed by Budda, and is manufactured by Dunlop, which means they're probably available in England. They already have true bypass, good pot mmmm. pot, and have that Vox sound. It's basically a quality cross between Vox and Dunlop, and it requires no mods.
If i am to buy a new wah, no mods intended, where lyeth the best bang for buck, and great sound, build and flexability. Is the Fasel thing hype, or a must have?

I don't care for the Fasel inductor myself....A used Vox 847 is a hard wah to beat for sound and looks...You can easily true bypass mod and replace to a better inductor and pot from there...
