Yeah I haven't started too long ago, but I know my fair share in gear and I really want some guitar tech experience. I'll get a job this summer and next year and hopefully I'll save up enough for her. It'd be a nice project and should calm down my GAS needs for a bit (a hardtail and a Floyd Rose guitar... though it doesn't mean I won't upgrade the Charvel )
Mhmmm yeah so I'm still insecure about things... I feel bad for planning on getting a warmocaster after 6 months of guitar and yet, I feel it'll really be an investment. I don't see myself quitting at all. If anything right now the Floyd is a turn off as it makes tunings harder. I LOVE my Charvel and I have no problems whatsoever with the Floyd, but having a hardtail as well would be a security as much as an incentive to work on it more. (I'll block the Charvel's Floyd this summer anyway).
Other possibility is spend only 511 pounds on a model 5 in the US, or wait until one pops up in the UK (if it does in the UK it'd be 400 pounds at the most). Also a second hand SL3 for instance would be 600 pounds.

Comments...? Also any suggestions similar to this one will be welcome. I'm looking for a 24 frets hardtail (for sustain. I could block a Floyd but I always fear it will make sustain just not as good) with HS or HH or single Humbucker guitars in the price range described above.

Please...? Jackson fans, currency gurus...? Warmoth fans too...?

is your question whether u shud build or buy?

Eeeh simply put, in a way, yes. If the build quality of the alternatives are better, I'll probably get those first, but I really want the experience of building the guitar too.

well... put in this way. here's my opinion.

if you want tech experience, build something cheaper. maybe work on a used ebay axe or something. that way u can learn while spending less. and not be afraid of screwin up.

and if you want a quality axe, use that money to buy yourself one.

Makes sense... The thing is, the Warmoth is kinda like... just what I want right now :P And I can't think of any other guitars in the same price range that'd offer me the same really. Closest thing I guess would be a model 1... but it has 22 frets. Though I admit this will be WAY cheaper.
I could always save up that much money for the warmoth and end up getting a model 1 and a model 5 :P
And to be honest I have a hard time figuring out how to screw up the warmoth. That possibly is just another proof of my ignorance, that's why I'd like people who assembled warmoth guitar to tell me more if possible...?

well.. looks like u answered your own question

If you want tech experience, buy a cheap strat off ebay, take it apart, out it back together, mod the hell out of it, and practice things like nut work, fret dressings and setups on it... Will be many times cheaper than buying warmoth parts only to find out you don´t have the skills necessary, then sucking up the loss reselling the parts...

Said cheap strats can go on ebay for as low as 20€ shipped, BTW

Seems a good idea, but I also want a second good guitar... argh choice...
I think the answer would be a model 1 and another model (neck through that i won't mess with too much). I'd like the idea of a cheap knockoff but I have no money to spare on mods and I'd still want a good guitar. With the model 1 I could always keep the neck (muahaha). It's Fender compatible isn't it?Edit: holy heck! Model 1s go for 250 on ebay US now?
I've seen one go for 130 pounds a while ago ( I posted about it )... Prices went upwards lately
Also what should I consider problematic in assembling a warmoth guitar? i.e what may cause a problem? What's hard about it? (asking this out of curiosity, not scepticism)

Guys...? There must have been some of you who assembled a warmoth... What would be the difficulties in assembling an all routed and drilled bolt on soloist with TOM bridge...?

1 you tha man Zerb!!!!!!!

Man, that looks insanely similar to the new Christian Olde Wolbers signature Jackson. I think you should check that out before going in for this.

Well most of the attraction would come from building it And it'd probably be a bit cheaper too (though I have yet to see the price list on the COW signature model)
Though it's true that for the price of the warmoth I could get a model 1 AND a model 5 or 6. I'll probably go this way.
How would dismanteling a bolt on guitar give me any experience though...? If I get a model 1 I'll probably change the nut, tuner, bridge and electronics though. Are these hard operations to do?
( I think I ask too many questions )
