Hey folks,
What's your feelings on noiseless single coils?
I fond it odd that every pickup manufacturer, in some way, is claiming that their technology will put an end to the true single coil....Fender has said this regarding the SCNs, Dimarzio says it with their Virtual Vintage, even the smaller guys like lace, kinman and bill lawrence say it to a certain degree...and not to take away from the SD (Im sure it's a good pup), but you hear that the stack plus is going to be the greatest thing ever.......Yet Fralin and Lollar seem to be doing more business these days than ever....and regular single coils seem to be in as much demand and more than ever...
What are your thoughts?
Personally, I've been playing with SCNs in my deluxe strat and deluxe tele for the past 2 years...and I'm really missing the glassy top end that real single coils provide...

To me, there are many variables in the equation, there are many useful end tones and many ways to get what works- I find the tubes vs SS vs modeling wars just as funny as the brand and model fights among pups-
All of that is to say I've had incredible sounds with off the shelf $20 single coils and incredible luck with Joe Barden blades that now run about 500 a set- To me the key isn't to take the approcah that others used..it's to find the combination that works for me-
I never liked dual rails until I found my zion strat which has spin as split and allows a hum free sound with just a tad of 2nd rail to fight off the hum and add some bass-
I didn't like single coil strats until I played a very well shielded strat though a perfect champ with the right compression and settings-
In other words, I may be the wrong person to ask- I think we can get lots of great sounds out of all kinds of combinations, but that may not be the discussion you were intersted in-
Cheers!
I have been using regular single coils and I just live with the noise. I can't speak for all of the noisless pups but I have used lace sensors and I did not like the tone. Its funny, my good friend uses the Laces and sounds great and he is playing through a Johnson Millenium.
welp.. give this new Stack Plus a shot-- It sounds like its an advancment--
the less this things color the tone and come close to the real thing the better.
The big mistake I made in the past was thinking that new was better -- to this present moment it just was not the case... I even worked for one of the fore-mentioned small makers above and I had free reign to create anything..
I'm in high hopes that Kevin and Crew have moved us up a notch here..
It sounds like somethings were vastly improved... and its worth a shot IMHO!
SUHR SSC...the real deal. I just got my 1st, it's amazing.
Revolutionary actually.
