I do not have any experience with invaders, but for a friend of mine am gonna be installing one into the bridge of his guitar. Would a 59n be a good neck for that pickup?

To tell the truth, I don't think so. If I were to have the chance I'd go for a 496R.

Bwell Doc, it is my opinion that a 59 goes with almost anything! If I were gonna put an Invader in something I would use either a 59, Jazz, or a Distortion Neck in the neck spot, but it would depend a lot on the guitar. What is the guitar?

An ibanez S, mahogany body with a floyd bridge.

I was also entertaining the idea to install my old 498t into the neck. Obviously the guys is a metalhead!

If he's a metal head then I would go with a Distortion in the neck. It has some screaming lead tones and is plenty hot enough to match up with the Invader. Having said that, I agree that the 59 pretty much goes with anything. It would be a good choice for a little variety within the guitar.

I use an Invader in my Explorer. I dont think the 59 neck works for metal.

I also say Distortion neck.

Dare I say this...there actually is an Invader neck...

yeah, lol but I dont think anybody here has actually tried an Invader neck so we couldn't really recomend it. I bet it sounds good though.

Guys I don't wanna buy a new pickup. Am thinking of using something I already have to turn this ibanez s (I already have sold it conditional on installing high output buckers) into a metal machine.

The buyer (that metalhead friend of mine) wanted something real powerful in the bridge, and I happened to came across a cheap zebra invader that I bought only for that quot;evilquot; master plan of mine (since I cannot find that guitars original pickups, I think I threw them away! ). I also could use an x2n but would rather keep that x2n for sentimental reasons (has been with me for more than 15 years now).

Frankly, I am thinking of the following: Remove the cover from my 498T, and install it in the neck to work with an invader in the bridge. How does that sound? I remember some folks who have been using JBs in the neck.

I think the 498T is actually better then the 59neck.

OK...seeing that you want to use what you already have, tell us what you have that you would be eilling to put in there, and we'll go from there.

Am gonna be going for the 498T, I simply cannot let go of my 7.50K 59n. Not worth it.

A 14.00K a5 neck pickup! Well I'll report about how the results turn out to be if you guys are interested.

I'd be quite interested in hearing how the 498T worked out in the neck. I didn't like it in the bridge of my Gibson SG, and I still have it, so maybe I could use it in some other project as a neck pickup... Maybe some clips if possible??? I never thought about it as neck pickup, but now it really seems to make perfect sense. It would probably cure it's problems I thought it had. (Thin, shrill)

I think a 59N goes GREAT with an Invader. You get a nice full spectrum of tonal options.

Today was my offday and finally I took the time to do the experiments on this guitar. It is a mahogany ibanez s with some version of the floyd rose bridge, which I do not have any idea about. Anyways, I tried it with a 59n, with a PGb in the neck, a 490R and finally a 498T.

The output of the invader is insane! It simply drives the amp too much for my tastes. But I have to mention that I liked it a lot because of what it does (gotta keep one around). And the nice thing is unlike the other 3-ceramic magnet HB's that I came across in the past (500T and X2N) this one is not that trebly. It made the bridge (which sounded very thin with paf type buckers, and very cool with a CC) very thick, with lotsa bass. Moreover the tone wasn't that blur, I was happily surprised. It's been quite a while I did not play with any ceramic bucker. But now I see why there are hard-core invader fans. For reasons of variety in my situation I'd be willing to leave the invader in that guitar if I were not to sell it.

All the other pickups but 498T were overpowered against the invader. 59n was the best clear a5 PAF among them all, but the output was simply not enough. I left the cover of the 498T on it and with metal pickup mounting rings it looks quite cool in a tele neck kinda way.

Of course the neck now is very loud. I was not expecting any good cleans from the neck. I was expecting to get a good neck lead tone, maybe a little too round and all. But guess what! After lowering the 498t quite a lot (flush with the pickup mounting ring), and raising the screw pieces higher than usual, I get a very good neck tone, and the very cool thing is that it is not that blurry. Of course expecting jazz neck clarity is out of question, but it can handle 3 (and carefully done 4) string chords pretty well. I am really amazed. I hated that pickup, and am happy that I found a use for it.

BTW I left the cover on because it already had a lot of highs anyway.

Thanks for the review! I'm definitely going to try that out some time now, perhaps just with an Invader. Are sound clips possible at all?

I agree

Well Jackson pairs the Invader with Full Shred neck in usa warrior models so this should be a good choice among others
