What is the best body wood to use for a Tele if wanting lightweight and resonance? I have had many Teles, but I never payed any attention to the wood used.
Ash......
ASH i hear is the best.... but i love the poplar in my MIM tele.... But oddly i hate most MIM strats that are poplar.... Well hate is a strong word.... i do have one MIM strat i like a lot.
swamp ash. not the northern 'baseball bat' ash. for lightweight and resonance, limba comes to mind too.
Ash amp; Alder are the traditional choices...I prefer lightweight ash, but more-so I need the three-saddle brass bridge. The 6-saddle doesn't have the same tone and that's a huge part of the Tele sound.
Greg,
Ash is considered the quot;standardquot; wood for a good light weight tele with killer tone but you played my Tele the other day...it is alder and Im perfectly happy with it...what did you think?

Christian,
I can dig your Tele!! I am really wanting a feather weight Tele. Do you have any idea what wood would have been used on my B?
Im almost positive it was poplar...
Lightweight swamp ash can be great, although I think it will have a stronger mid-range voice than heavier swamp ash, so there are potential tonal differences as well as weight differences. I have very light through fairly heavy ash American Teles, and I like 'em all for the tonal variations. I think alder is more consistent in weight and tone overall, and I like my alder Teles just as much as the ash ones. I have to admit though that my lightest swamp ash Tele feels as good as it sounds, so I can understand your inclination.
100% swamp ash...you can get the same body style lighter weight in swamp ash than alder.

This is totally but I ran into a B like mine on HC for $650. It was a player's guitar, but not too bad. I wanted to buy it. I MISS B!!!!! I will get another one in the next 6-7 months.
