Ok at UGD UK after talking with Evan and other members about replacing pups in my Dean Hardtail select, the Custom Custom was seeming like a sure contender for the bridge. There however is the dilemna over the neck. The Pearly gates and A2P and the Seth Lover (from Brow ) were the front runners.
The guitar itself is all mahogany, but apparently according to Evan and Martin Hartwell, has a rather thick maple cap. I would want a reasonably low output pickup in there i think. I want a nice smooth warm pickup with good mids. Good for some nice cleans, hard blues rock (think Aerosmith, GnR sort of thing), and the ability to still sound good with the gain turned up for if i do metal (not often so not priority).
What would you guys suggest? Thanks alot
Jeff
I don't know from personal experience, but based on what I've heard and on what kind of stuff you're going to be playing it sounds like the A2P would be a good one to check out.
I have a USA Dean Hardtail, and ended up with an APH/APH set. The neck APH is stock, and sounds fantastic. I had MJ overwind the bridge just slightly....8.43 is what it reads. Adds a little beef, but still sounds amazing.
I've had the PG in the neck of the HT (that came stock), a Seth and a 59' before I settled on the APH. If you click on my soundclips, there are some clips of a PG and a Seth neck. Both were done with my Hardtail......
Clarity wise I liked the APH, Seth, 59 and PG...in that order. I could never quite get the clarity I wanted out of the PG, but the seth was close. The 59' was too boomy in the lows for me, and a bit too peircing in the highs. APH was the perfect fit for me.
Hope this helps a little.
hehe i think i was the one who popped up with PGN
but yeah, the A2P in the neck is a sweet soloing pickup for smoother tones.. you might want more edge and definition for stuff like joe perry though, in which case check out the jazz or PGn..

I think we know what Brow will suggest...
But yeah, i'm still going with the A2P, that would sound ace in your hardtail dude.
Hmm ok now am thinking of CCb and A2Pn in the axe. Tuesday ill pay a trip to city music and take advantage of that UGD discount
CC/Seth N in nickel covered gets my vote for a Hard Tail. I suggested it to chcjunior for his Dean HT, and he loves it. I'm not sure if he's using the Seth or 59n though. The Hard Tail has a bright, hard attack, so the CC is the perfect choice for the bridge.

You do know what I'd suggest............. a Seth neck.
Jeff mentioned it above
On seconds thought Jeff, an A2P or maybe even a Jazz may suit what you want from that guitar.
