Here's a question for you guitar players out there that love Blackface amps...

Would you sacrifice the vibrato on the vibrato channel to get a 3 knob reverb instead of the standard one knob? (much cooler reverb)

Thanks.

What exactly do you mean by three knob reverb? I've only ever had one knob for verb, so I seriously have no idea what the other knobs would be for. (please explain, I'm intregued)

and also, Couldn't you just make an out board sort of box that would house the additional knobs? So you could keep your Trem, and have the additional reverb control? (I mean there might be some issue preventing that from happening though, I dunno much about amps)

Ed

outboards are not very convenient. 3 knobs, something like dwell, tone and mix.

thanks for your reply.

sorry scott, just a tweed guy here

chop that blackface up and give me three knobs AND the tremolo!

just kidding..... (no I'm not).

I ditched the Vibrato on mine for a midrange pot on the vibrato channel and quot;slope resistorquot; pot for the normal channel....I Like the reverb as is...

I would like that. I've always used 3 know reverbs.

I don't know if you are designing an amp or just thinking of modifying one, but I'd keep the trem if it happened to sound good. If not then I'd consider the reverb thing but *only* if I really thought I would use it to dial something in that I couldn't do with the single knob.

The vibrato sucks alot of the amp's gain away....Make sure you use a 50k switched pot so you can disconnect the vibrato when not in use....The vibrato loads the signal down...

i really never use my vibrato at all, i just realized it...lol.

A 3 knob reverb would be pretty sweet to achieve a deep surfy reverb that is harder to get on regular BF amps.

Yes.

I would not. I love the reverb in a blackface amp just the way it is. Sounds great to me. Plus what are you gonna do: put those cheezy looking Dymo stickers on the front panel to cover up the original quot;speedquot; amp; quot;intensityquot; writing? I think that looks so tacky! Lew

Lewthere's enough laser guys out there that can make custom faceplates in a heartbeat.

I think the reverb is fine as is on the BF Fender amps and it's a classic reverb tone we've heard for 40 years...

I have a few of those laser stickers on my Marshall head that Trace at Voodoo Amps put on my amp....LOL...No biggie really!

I'd ditch the trem for a lush reverb in a heartbeat.

lew's right though, the classic Bf reverb is a badass tone.
I'd offer a 'surf' edition BF style amp combo with the 3 knob reverb as one of your models though.

too many models is a bad thing IMO, 3 or less is where I'm focusing my plans.

I say leave it as is and build your own outboard Reverb tank!

ditch the trem.......and make it a uni-vibe!.....lol, j/k (kind of)

Tough question Scott. I have a '67 Deluxe Reverb. The Vibrato has been replaced with a on/off type of pot. When it is on it adds the tube for the vibrato into either the preamp or power (can't remember). It does make a difference.... it adds just a little bit more gain. When it is turned off the Vibrato still works. In order for me to answer this accuratley I would need to know more about the mod. How permanent would it be? If I wanted to put it back to original what would need to be done? 3 Knob reverb in a Fender does sound pretty cooll
