I did my research and will be getting 2 governors as my guitarist has 2 mixed with his g12t75 speakers and it sounds great except for the g12t75 speakers in it LOL. I am checking out THE TONKER, WIZARD, BLACK POWDER, SWAMP THANG. What speakers would work with my modded dual recifier? I currently have 2 V30S and 2 G12K100 speakers in my Mesa cab and I like it but the V30s are a little harsh and the g12k100 speakers I am not sure about until I mix them with the governor or other speakers. I am ordering a Voodoo amps cab soon unloaded and need 4 speakers. I may take the g12k100 speakers and put them in the Voodoo cab mixed with governors or maybe the wizard???????????? So confused. I play in drop C and 7 strings in A. I like the versatility and heaviness that the dual rectifier Voodoo modded gives me and I want speakers to match. The Voodoo cab is sealed back / front loaded by the way. I also play alot of clean channel stuf but mostly raw amp on the red channel. Thanks for your help.

I'd give the Wizards a shot. I know the V30/G12h combo works really well, so the Wizard/Gov should work well too.

I think 4 Private Jacks in a 4X12 would be great. Genz-Benz uses those in its Tribal Series be it a 2X12 or 4X12. I have played through that cab and it is the first 4X12 I have liked. I would like to try a Marshall cab with the new Celestion Heritage G12 as used in the Marshall HW series.

I think the Gov is great in a 2X12 and from what I have heard not so great an a 4X12 config although I have not played through the latter.

Are the tonkers too clean or dark? I like a little distortion from the speaker. I hear the private jack sounds great but with low tunings it isnt good.

tonkers are supposed to mix well with govn'ers.

have you considered trying some Red Fangs (alnico) with the ceramics? some folks like to combine them.

I talked to Eminence. I have it narrowed it down to the Wizard, Tonker, Swap thang. Anyone heard these mixed witht the Governor.

My guitarist has 2 governors and 2 g12t75 speakers. Has anyone tried Eminences version of the g12t75 called the MANOWAR? Is it less annoying in the highs compared to its Celestion counterpart?

Klink, I'd say you've narrowed down to some good choices for your style. Probably not many guys out there that have tried these combo's especially since all these speakers are relatively new. Afraid you'll just have to choose and try them. I still say Wizard or Tonker. They are not that expensive so you aren't out that much if you turn around and sell them if they don't work for you. Good Luck.
BTW I just compared a closed back with 2 V30's vs a semi open back with 2 Governors and the Governors just sounded much better to my ears. May be the difference in the cabs, but the V30's are just so in your face and the Governors are better balanced and not as quot;harshquot; I guess. I want to try a Wizard and Private Jack in that closed back 212 and see how that goes.

I think I wil buy a Governor, wizard, tonker and swamp thang and try them as you uggest. I will be selling one or two of them so if interested keep an eye out for my sale on the trading post as they will be basically new speakers. I am sure I will keep the governor and buy or trade for another speaker I buy new if anyone is interested later.

germI tried those and while I like them I like the governor better and they are similar to the governor and wonder if the governor needs something different to counteract it mid oriented sound. That is why I wondered about the tonker or swamp thang. I am even willing to try the Eminence manowar (g12t75 copy @ 120 watts) as Bogner mixes v30s and g12t75 speakers. I would like to hear the v12 though. What city do you practice at?

Hey.. just answered your mail.

The Tonkers don't have the high-buzz of G12-75T, at least I didn't hear any. They should be nice and tight with detuned guitars too..

As I said before, the Tonkers sounded good, but I needed more wooly speaker breakup and the V30 mid spike for my tastes.

I just bought a manowar off ebay. I will see how it sounds but I am still interested in other mixes. I am willing to trade my 2 v30s for 2 governors, wizards or tonkers if anyone is interested

The manowar has a scooped mid and great lowend compared to the v30s. I think the manowar does not have enough mids to mix with my g12k100 speakers though and the v30 is a great match for the g12k100 but my Mesa rectifier is so shrill that I need speakers to tame its high hissy spikey crap. I am going to get governors for sure and I bet if mixed with the manowar (g12t75 clone) that it would sound badass. I am also interested in trading my v30s and possibly my 2 g12k100 (marshall mode 4 cab) speakers as well toward eminence tonkers, wizards.

Ok I ordered 2 governors, 1 swamp thang, 1 tonker, 1 wizard and bought a manowar off ebay. I will get them around Wednesday or Thursday of next week. I am sure the Governors sound better than my 2 v30s. Does anyone know what speaker would replace my g12k100 speakers? or come close? I read on the Celestion site that the g12k100 speakers are the best they have for detuned players and I tune to d then drop the c or 7 string tuned to A. I wonder what speaker by eminence sounds like this one?
