I have a sickness with guitars that look beat up... Love the Steve Vai green meanie and the EVH strats of the 70's and 80's..... Going thru my closet i found a guitar i rarely use but love the sound of it big time! The neck is god awful and the thing will not stay in tune.... It was just a bunch of cheap replacement parts i bought years ago at local guitar stores.... Funny how back in the late 80's and early 90's every guitar store stocked necks and bodies for custom guitars and now no one does.. There is 2 stores in Toronto that i know carry a few WD or Mighty Mite necks and bodies... But there used to be a store that carried lots of Warmoth necks and bodies in stock! And it was cheaper to buy them at the store then order direct from Warmoth....
Anyways i have no idea who made the neck and body i have... I think the neck was made in teh Godin Factory and the body may of been a left over Kramer or maybe it's a Godin made strat too.. no idea really.. It was rear loaded guitar but i had stuck a pickguard on it years ago.. I wanted that EVH white strat with Black pickguard single humbucker look... The guitar has a Gotoh vintage style trem on it and if i can fit a floyd on this body i will do so.... maybe tomorrow...
The neck has to go... it is dung.... i'll make a new neck for it myself... I have one on the way.. maple with an Ebony board so i might use it for this project... The body will have all sorts of screw holes and odd mods to the pickup routes and i'm thinking of taking the pickguard off and leaving it off..... Think it'll look neat all beat up.... I have throwin this guitar around and it has landed hard a few times.... For a basswood body it has held up... There is a split in the body or paint... i can't tell if it goes thru to the wood or if it's just a paint split.. either way this thing kicks some tone! This piece of basswood makes this strat sound like an SG...... extremely thick! It has an old but very nice Dimarzio Double Whammy pickup in it... that thing rocks!
If i can post photos in the near future i'll put them up....

Darn.... i measured my store bought strat necks nut width this morning to see how the Floyd nut will fit and it will not.... I have a Floyd R4 nut for 1 11/16th nut widths and i need an R2 for this 1 5/8's nut width neck... so i'm stuck for now and have to look at ways around this.... I was hoping to use this neck until i can finnish making one by hand..... I may order an R2 nut just to have anyways... This neck i have that needs a norrower nut is really measureing 1 10/16ths... odd size... half way between 1 5/8ths and 1 11/16th

I find stuff i had forgotten about all the time.. I have my main guitars i use all the time and a boat load of stuff i mess around with that gets buried in a closet with a pile of stuff.. I have necks, bodies, pickups and assort stuff all over the place.... Not all of it is great quality stuff, some is homemade parts i started but never completed.. I found an SG body i started 7 years ago and never finnished.... a little later i found a Mahogany neck blank that i made a mistake on that was meant for the SG... The SG's neck can be saved but i need to use a smaller headstock then a Gibson headstock..
Man! I have the same problem like you do. I would start off on some project and got side tracked one way or another and then forgot all about it. Half of my basement is filled with parts that I don't know what they're for. May be I should atart putting tags on them.
Anyways, I would like to see some pics on what you're working on.
Dude, if you've got old gear for sale or trade, post it!

Ya i have different project guitars and parts , plus homemade guitar necks and bodies and sometimes i'll work on something and lose interest and find something else.. plus i'm always buying more stuff too... Projects on the go
1-I bought a MIM tele last month and have not really used it much but the price was right.... Needs a better bridge
2- I'm working on this Strat here that i started this thread about and i have to either make a neck to fit my Floyd parts or order some Floyd parts to fit my neck.. Needs to be rebuilt as it was not working as well as it should with the hardware that was on the guitar
3-I have a homemade strat that i painted Gold but have yet to asembly it and try it out..
4-I put together a tele out of odd ball parts some techs gave me and it has some buzzing in the electronics i can't find the source
5-need to fret dress and return a Jackson back to stock specs-(adding the original Floyd back to the guitar
6-Have a Epi Exployer that i glued back together that needs the final work done to the repairs and some more electronic work...
7-i have a second Epi, a LP standard that had the neck snaped in half and the glue job didn't go to well-(done by another guy trying to save it and i got it from him) Only way to save it is to do a refret and sand the lump out of the fingerboard...
8-have 1981 Marshall 800 head that needs recovering... plus needs a good tech to bring it back to better health.....
9-Have a homemade Double neck body and 2 necks i made a few years back and need to finnish.. i also have parts roughed out for another double neck but have moved onto this second double neck as it is going better...
10-i have a few guitars that the nut slots are too low and need replaceing....
11-Bought new Gibson LP Deluxe replacement pickups for my 76 LP and have yet to install them.... bought them 2 years ago now.....
12-homemade tele needs to be fretted and painted and put together oneday
13-have many other necks that need bodies made..... People and techs have given me necks over the years... I know a few techs and they have givan me parts and necks.... I have some nice Godin necks that need bodies, a few Jackson style no-name necks, a Lado, a Yamaha pacifica neck, a Peavey Wolfgang neck...
Plus tons of guitars i started to make that are just roughed out... plus some speaker cabs i started
I should be busy for ages.... and i keep finding more gear.....
Geez, I thought I was bad!!!
Maybe you should like, ya know...finish a couple three of those sometime! Your place must be like a guitar graveyard!
You had me beat big time. I have only eight guitar projects going on at the same time; but I do have other furniture projects also. I feel I've known you all my life. You have just described the way I do things!

People laugh at me as i use my clothes dressers and night tables to store guitar parts...... i have 2 drawers full of EFFECTs a large drawer full of pickups, a bunch of necks on different drawers..... it gets crazy! My Closet is full of cases, boxes, and assorted bodies... i keep my cloths in the spare bedroom... i'm guitar sick i guess...

Ya... it's a strange way of doing things... but as long as i have my main guitars and amps working then i feel no emergencies to get some of these other projects done... My main guitars are in NEW shape at all times. I keep them looking and playing perfect if i can help it. I'd like to get the double necks done oneday!

I'd love to post photos soon... but i'll need to get a buddy to help me figure out how to post my photos... i tried to use a photo site once and got lost and gave up.... Not the biggest computer geek...
Today i ordered a Floyd nut for this superstrat and now i'm having second thoughts of using a Floyd on this beat up body and neck.... hmm.. guess i'll have to make up my mind soon! They original trouble with this body is the trem cavity seems really forward... Think it was a factory second.. A 6 screw trem just fit... a 2 Post American Standard bridge would not have fit as the posts would be too close to the rout.. A Floyd has the posts a bit farther forward so i know it will work! But i was wondering what this strat would be like if i filled the trem rout in with more Basswood and add a hardtail bridge! That would be funny! I have a bunch of American Standard Hardtail strat bridges i bought years ago.... I could save the Floyd for a completely custom homemade strat..WhoFan
May be you should just use a hardtail bridge. I've just seen a new Fender Limited Edition So-Cal that doesn't have a trem on it. It's got one humbucker and one knob. Looks kind of cool.
