Today, the salesman at Sam Ash said that Sam Ash will no longer carry the Gibson brands (like Gibson...duh, and Epiphone).

If they are going to deal at your store or internet, this may be a good time to wheel a good deal on a Gibson brand at Sam Ash.

Don't forget...always beat up the salesman for the lowest price possible!

With Gibson and GC sleeping in the same bed that is not surprising.

hmmm interesting.

I don't know why Sam Ash and Guitar Center don't just stop selling the same brands. It seems like they'd be better off carrying entirely different brands.

Well, GC doesn't sell ESP.

A few years ago, the Ash (hole) brothers got into a tiff with Gibson, demanding lower prices so they could gouge us even more. They stopped selling Gibson for quite a while and eventually settled the feud. I agree with big_black, it probably has something to do with the GC/Gibson relationship at this point. Sam Ash finally quot;f-edquot; themselves instead of quot;F-ingquot; us as they have for years

No, I think Sam Ash is going under. There's one here in Queens Blvd in Forest Hills that has turned to garbage in the guitar department. Over the years I've gone to Guitar Center instead because their prices were cheaper and they had a much larger selection. Sam Ash lost their Jackson account years ago before Fender bought them out. Sam Ash has gone downhill since Guitar Center started opening up their stores all over the place.

There's one in New Haven here that I think is going under as well. It's only a matter of time before it's either Guitar Center or mom and pops stores.

They've probably over-extended themselves and don't have the management structure that GC does. They bought out Manny's which was a landmark here in NY, but I guess that isn't panning out....Too bad for the Ash Brothers. Their dad would be so proud

If I remember correctly Sam Ash dumped Gibson sometime last year....around the time Gibson started insisting that deallers pay a minimum buy in of guitars and atleast 50% of the product on the wall had to be either Gibson or one of it's sub-companies.

Sam Ash is hurting in a big way. I know one of the Ash bros. is involved in a bitter divorce which probably doesn't help. I don't know if they are outof money or just hiding it so the ex doesn't get it. They have pulled a lot of stock from stores around the country to fill the NY area stores with decent stock from what it appears and their Gibby prices are absurd, they're not giving away anything price wise so don't get your hopes up.

I hear it was the other way around. Gibson dumped Ash.

I was in the Tampa FL Sam Ash store the other day when I bought my V30s and that store doesn't look like it's going under? It was loaded with stuff?

Gibson is just being stupid right now and I don't need to buy a Gibson product these days anyway!

Sam Ash... ever been to the one in Ontario Mills? Pure garbage. Broken guitars left and right, missing knobs etc... no name brands, only quot;Carlo Robelliquot; and quot;Jay Turserquot;... Worse than GC.

I don't understand why anybody would buy a guitar there.

slade

AFAIK Scam Cash hasn't stocked new Gibson's in over a year. I get their flyers once or twice a month and they're quot;Always paying top dollar for used Gibsonsquot;.

Whatever.

I'll stick to the good dealers like 30th St Guitars and the mom amp; pops. These days all I really buy are strings and the occasional pickup or stompbox so it's not like I really care who carries what amp; at what price...all I want/need is halfway decent service from someone who isn't a complete moron. Really, I wouldn't lose any sleep if both Guitarget and Sams Ass went out of business.

Peace,

The one near me is DEAD, all their employees just stand around all day.

DOWN WITH THE CORPORATONS. :fing25:Up with the Mom and Pops!

My local Sam Ash, Canoga Park, has been going steady but the stock has dipped in quality. I think they try to tailor their stock to the profile of the clientele.

However, that Sam Ash is in trouble now, because Guitar Center just opened a new store next to the Northridge mall. I'm actually happy that I've got one a few blocks away! That's gonna hurt Sam Ash's business badly.

For those two companies, it's been a game of checkers, and it looks like GC is winning. I buy everything used though, so they get my string'n'pick money.

The Guitar center in Carle Place, NY has been quite good. They have great gear there, almost anything you want. The quality of Sam Ash went down the day they started selling Carlo Robelli and bronxville gear- it's pure garbage yet it dominates their inventory, to the point you must buy it if you're buying a guitar at Sam Ash.

The only good stuff Sam Ash has is stuff they bought used. These days it looks like a glorified overpriced pawn shop. It's a shame since it used to be such a great chain of stores.
