Hey guys, does anyone know (or is anyone willing to measure) the exact thickness of a Gibson LP body? I have a project in mind and I'm trying to figure out if the body is cut to the proper thickness, or if I'll have to thin it out. Thanks.
Ryan
Don't know for sure ( i don't have a caliper handy), but my LP Standard is about 1/4quot; thicker than my Hamer Special.
By the way, just to be clear, this is the measurement I need...

1 1/2quot; at the binding to 1 3/4quot; at the apex of the arch.
Most LP Studios are about 1/8quot; thinner.
I measured 2 inch at the binding on my heavy LP...
On a GIbson: JJ´s measurements are correct.
BTW I just put a set of calipers to my Studio Gothic and a customer´s LP Custom, and they´re 100% identical in size, I´m not too sure on the Studios being 1/8quot; thinner...
Just measuring the edge, including binding, my LP Custom comes in at about 2quot;.
That's not counting the arch in the center of the body.
The thickness on Les Paul Studios vary by year. Normally they were full thickness, but sometime in the mid '90s they were thinner than a regular Les Paul in an effort to reduce weight
SCOTT! How thick are your RI beauties!!??
I just checked my 57' reissue at the point you wanted and it's 1 and 15/16 inches thick (from the back to the top of the binding).
Thanks guys.

A bunch of conflicting stories? Interesting.I just measured one with my caliper and it came in at 1.938. Thats not counting the arch.
A quick followup question, anyone know the thickness of a Les Paul's maple cap?
Ryan
