I'm replacing my old 1979 Peavey head this week for a new one. My cab is a Crate Blue Voodoo with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. I'm seriously thinking about buying the Randall RH200G2, but the Spider II looks pretty amazing. Both amps cost $399 at Musician Friend. I've heard nothing but great things about Randall amps in general. Line 6 on the other hand is different. Many say the fuzes blow a lot in them. Is this true? The head I want to buy must have a killer thick distortion channel (think AIC meets Down with a bit of Slayer) but it has to have a good clean channel also. Which would you buy?
Thanks.
Randall for sure, it'll interact much better with your cab and is durable as all hell.
i didn't like the spider II when i played one. Just sounded cheap and there wasnt that many decent tones for me. I spose this is reflected in the price
i like my spider II for practice stuff, but if you want a really thick Down-like tone, look elsewhere. down actually used randalls (titan heads amp; randall cabs) on their tour for down II, and they sound killer. i say go for the randall, if you cant try either out first
