ive been looking for a small tube amp to run with my pod xtlive and ive narrowed it down to either a peavey classic 30 ~ $500 US or a laney lc15r ~ $380 US. i know neither of these amps have enough gain for metal but will it work fine with the xtlive? the laney is cheaper but also has 15 less watts. which one should i go for?

go for the one with the most clean headroom, unless you're using it for coloring effects only

the XT will get you better metal tones than either of the stock amps, but a lot of it is still gonna be in your speakers. Sometimes i think speakers shape tone more than an actual amp

For use with the XT Live, check into the Atomic Reactor amps. They're basically power amps and cabinets designed for the modeling preamps, and they get rave reviews.

I still think a good SS power amp is the way to go with using modelers. Plenty of clean headroom. I use the power amp of a 130 watt Peavey amp and it works great.

I agree with something that has good clean headroom. I run my Boss GT-6 into the effects loop of my Marshall and can get some pretty decent tones out of it.

Or, you could buy my Blues JR with an upgraded speaker....and have a bunch of $$ left over for other cool stuff!

1. and those amps fit your price range they are 500$ new and one of those will sound 10x better than either of those other amps with the podxtlive in front of it.
