...or any guitar in general that has a humbucker?
and i dont mean the slow, praise and worship music, i mean stuff like Delirious, Kutless, Salvador, etc... all very contemporary, ROCKIN! christian music!
i was thinking of the JB for bridge, because it's not too hot and definitely cuts through, and the Jazz for neck, because...well the jazz is made for the JB
and also, for am HSS guitar, i already got the JB in the bridge and need a good single coil, or single coiled humbucker for it, mind you i also do alot of leads in the neck in teh fashion of some metal
for this guitar, i was thinking of the Lil 59, or lil screamin demon, and for middle, an ssl-1 or something..
what do you guys think?
I recommened a set of Duncan Pearly Gates Humbuckers.
ooh, the pearly gates sounds like it'd be cool
man, after going to ATF(aquire the fire), the band they had their had some sick tone!! he was using a telecaster with a humbucker in neck, and a PRS CE24(dont know if it was stock though)
acquire the fire is an awesome band...
i personally like Hillsong and their United Live Group. they're amazing.
oh and sonicflood too

I play contempary Gospel rock all that u described Lots and lots OF PETRA. and yes stuff like steve Kubin and Don Moen I currently have a JB, its the only pup in the guitar, and serves well , I too am looking to for a neck single coil cant decide between the APS-2 or cool rails. I must add that I use the JB with 250k pots and 0.040 cap(403). I also have another guitar project to be done which wld house a JB and JAZZ.
And yes ATS is a great band.

atf is a band?
i jsut thought it was the thing ron luce made?
cool thing was, my friend stalin was an intern at the honar academy so we got to go backstage, eat free lunch with teh interns and got to meet the praise and worship band(great band btw, their version of quot;we worship youquot; was incredible!!)
speaknig of hillsong, im thinking of going there when i graduate high school, looks like a great place to go to!
i guess i want a warm tone, that cuts through but isn't too hot and all that stuff

Well then in that case A Pearly Gates set or 59 set wld be cool too. warm but cutting. But what I like abt the JB really alows you to cut through with all the diff instruments involved i.e keyboards, wind instruments etc. and u cld just role back the volume on the JB to be subtle when needed.Of course having it as the only pickup is a bit of a handy cape, i have to use my strat too to cover various styles. Thats why I want to put a single coil in the neck. By the way you remmber Bob Hartman's tone in JUDAS KISS? That was a JB in a LES PAUL without the Maple top.
cool
i like the JB on my charvel actually, and the DD suits the les paul pretty well, i guess if iget another humbucker equipped guitar i'll put the pearly gates in it, that looks like sucha cool pickup!!
It's all rock n roll anymore. Christian, Country, Pop...same pickups work fine for all.
I've found that playing in church can be a challenge if you're expected to get a rock tone at low volumes.
One or two 20 watt Fender Deluxes or Deluxe Reverbs always did the trick for me.
yeah ive been playing @ church quite a lot through my lil tube maarshall 30 watter, it does the trick for me but i need sum new pups lol. my improvisation tone isnt as warm as i want it to be :P
So you're looking for a warm fat tone from your Les Paul? Gotta be a little careful...the neck pickup can get muddy.
I think your own suggestion of the Jazz neck and JB bridge might do the trick.
If you wanted a thicker tone with more mids, the Custom Custom bridge and either the Seth Lover, A2Pro or Pearly Gates neck would be very cool too.
Slash uses a pair of A2Pros in his Les Paul...that's a sweet tone but the bridge pickup is not nearly as hot as a JB or Custom Custom.
It's kind of handy to have a hot pickup in the bridge position (like the Duncan Custom, Custom Custom, JB or Distortion) when you're trying to get a rockin overdriven tone at low volumes...as is always the case playing in church.Lew
Lil screaming demon neck, custom staggered middle.
for HSS .. JB - hot rails - hot rails ... or ... JB - Vintage Rails - Lil'59
JBb / JAZZn or PGb / AIIPn sound good to me .. actually, i like JBb / AIIPn too ...good luck

I'm in almost the same situation...
I'm thinking of replacing my no-name pickups with a couple Seymour-Duncans for better quality sound. I have a Brian Moore i81.13 (a fairly lightweight Kalantas Mahogany body, Maple neck, Rosewood fretboard, two humbuckers with split coil capability). My model came with stock no-name pickups, but I noticed that other (more expensive) Brian Moores come with pickups. In our church we play modern worship stuff (like Vineyard, Paul Baloche, Tim Hughes style with some songs by Third Day and Newsboys). So sometimes I play clean, sometimes slightly dirty, and sometimes with a crunchy overdrive. Definitely no metal, though.
So that brings me to my pickup question. I saw this thread, and appreciate the responses so far. My thing is that I don't want the pickups to be too harsh or overpowering. I was thinking of going with a Jazz in the neck with a JB in the bridge--seems like a popular combination. I did read some posts in another thread where a guy thought that JBs sounded too shrill, and another thought they didn't sound good clean--any opinions on that? Seems like most people like them. I could also go with a '59, Pearly Gates (love that name!), or Alnico 2. So many choices!
So for a modern worship setting, I want something that sounds really good, both clean and dirty without being too harsh or overpowering.
I definitely want Jazz in the neck. I definitely want the humbuckers to still sound good when split to quot;single coilquot;.
So for the bridge: JB, Pearly Gates, Alnico 2, or '59???

Yes thats what I want and thats why I choose the JB, for the overdriven tone, and it sounds good too.

I love the JB and I know I tend to get a bit biased towards it. But the JB wld work well in the Brian Moore since it is a Mahogany body, rosewood fretboard and maple neck. The JB and Jazz also split very well to give a single coil tone. I personally use the JB with 250K pots. 500k sounds good too, but since it is the only pickup on the guitar I put 250K.
Sometimes the name leads you to the right answer....quot;Pearly Gatesquot; for church wails, quot;Screaming Demonquot; for FULL DISTORTION HAILS...
(i miss Full Distortion's old Avatar)
welcome Fuddy Duddy
as you can see from my sig (and the pic in my profile), i have a brian moore i88.13 ... i upgraded the stock pups (blech!) to an Alnico II Pro Neck and JB bridge ... these are the exact pickups that Brian Moore Guitars put on the upper end i-series guitars ... in fact, i played Patrick Cumming's (pres. of Brian Moore Guitars) guitar at an open-house and it had these very pickups in it and sounded great - sold me! ... while you are in there, you might want to consider putting in a 5 way switch instead of the 3 way switch ... you can drop a quot;P-typequot; megaswitch to get the 5 combinations found on PRS guitars ... every single one of the combinations is humbucking, and the #2 and #4 position are very fun indeed to approximate 'strat-ish' or 'tele-ish' tones ... wonderful for chimey clean chords (add a touch of chorus to taste )
don't worry about the JB being harsh or shrill or overpowering ... it balances beautifully with the AIIP ... it just keeps a little extra held back for those times when you might want to really open it up
cheers

Fuddy WELCOME TO THE FORUM!
Both you and MooM should look at the at the A2P or the Pearly Gates. Warm tones but still spanky enough to cut. As I've said before I'm not a big fan of a JB in a LP, that's why I've got the A2P in my bridge slot.
