Locking Kluson Tuners

Anyone have experience with these? Comments on quality, useability, ect would be greatly appreciated. Also, the only place I can find them is WD, or from WD thru Amazon. I have been boycotting WD, but will buy these just to keep the look of my Paul stock.

I always put locking tuners on my guitars, but I do not want to change the footprint of the tuners on my Les Paul. The Grover locking tuners are my favorite, but wrong hole pattern.

I played a Strat with the locking Fender style Klusons on it, they are made by Gotoh, and IMO are prety damn good. The best part is that they do not change anything about the guitar, and it still looks stock...I really like Kluson keys anyway, so maybe Im biased but I like them...in fact, Im gonna put a set on my JV Strat!

How do those lock? Are they like the locking Grovers- lock as you turn them? I might get a set for the Nighthawk.

This guy has a whole bunch. They are cheaper too!

Are you sure you need them? My Les Pauls stay in righteous tune. With only one wrap I might add.

I'm not entirely sure that I need them. I use the technique listed in the link you provided on all of my non locking guitars, and it works really well. Perhaps locking tuners are more of a crutch for me, I like the ease and speed of string changes. I may opt for the Tonepros locking AVR2 and aluminum locking tailpiece first, and see how the tuning stability goes..

I played the Lester for about an hour tonight, and only had slight issues with staying in tune. The strings are new, and even though I streched them thoroughly, they still have a little breaking in to do. Originally Posted by the guy who invented fireJeff,

Well, if you buy TonePros, you are giving WD money. They are the sole distrubutor of them.

Also, most Les Paul nuts are a bit sticky on one or two strings. You might need to give it a slight filing to widen a slot of two if the strings are binding.

you should check out the gotoh kluson-style locking tuners as well. i read that they are much better quality-wise (better materials, tolerances and gear ratio) compared to original klusons and they weigh almost similar to the non-locking type. iirc, they are much cheaper too.

String changes are the only reason I like them too. I like to be able to change pickups or guages of strings without having to buy another set. I'm sick of waiting until a set of srtings are dead to make any changes.

A good wrap and a good stretch does wonders.

Cripes...I didn't know WD was the sole distributor of tonepros. I lubed the nut with graphite and it seems to be ok for now, but I don't really have enough playing time into it to really tell.
