I'm using D'addario XL.11s right now and I'm not too fond of the thickness. The tension is great though, I can tune low, no problems. It's just the thickness. Does a company make .10s with the .11s' tension? I'd then probably get a set of these and change the low E for a .50.

Does anyone make a Hex-core guitar string? I'm not sure...

For years, that's been my solution on basses that tended to feel floppier than I wanted. It's a b*tch to go above a .110 E string or a .135 B, so I started using hex-core strings in smaller gauges, which all owed for both a smaller diameter while keeping a higher tension. There were some tonal tradeoffs, though. Hex-cores never seem to sound as detailed or alive as roundcores...

Try stainless steel strings. They'll play hell with your frets, but I think you'll find the bottom end is more focused and they'll feel tighter.

Why don't you just play more with them? You'll get used to them, and your fingers will get stronger, too.

Just get a set of tens and raise the action

Yeah... I don't know how long it'd take. I've been using those .11s for a month now. It's easy to play (the action is very low, low buzz...) but the thickness feels weird.
Ah raise the action... Dang I'd hate that! I'm still kinda beginning, I'd rather have a guitar that plays great and get better with it, then raise it a little. Yeah it's the opposite of what I should do... but er... ok.

You'll get used to it, give it some time. Are you playing in standard tuning?

I change a lot. Mostly between Standard and dropped C.

Actually, I'd suggest playing with some 13's for a couple of months. Those 11's will seem like 9's.

Wow, thats the truth. I play my jazz guitars a lot and pick up my strat and I feeling like my guitar is strung with taffee!!
