Which pickup honestly takes the cake for metal?

For metal i`d say DD,but the JB is an all around better more versatile p/u in my opinion!

I'm not really qualified to answer this, but I've been told the Full Shred is a great under-utilized pickup for metal, especially thrash (despite what the official description says about rock 'n roll tones).

DD all the way for metal. It's quite versatile as well, especially when split. The JB is a good pickup, too. But I never got along with it. A lot of metal guys in the 80's used the JBs with great results. I've found that the Distortion can do pretty much all things metal and then some.

The Full Shred is also a good metal pickup. I think of it as a higher output Jazz. It's bright and very articulate. Just a little to bright for me. I prefer the lower mids of the Distortion to the top end of the Full Shred and the upper mids of the JB.

The DD!!!!! I so hate everything about the JB.

Yep, I like the DD better than the DD but I like the DD with an A2 mag better than both of them

i honestly cant decide between these 2. i just love em both for different reasons, i really cant say i prefer one over the other. and i still gotta try the JB From Hell (JB with normal sized ceramic mag)

The DD is the better metal pup
the JB can hold its own but the DD is just meaner and has more clarity

I thought a JB with a ceramic mag is a DD? Right? I heard the JB and DD are the same pickup but the JB has an alnico and the DD has a ceramic. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I have tried them both in the same guitar and i would say it depends on what kind of sound you want. I found th Jb had what I would call a gritty sound to it, Grity in a good way but not the sound i was after. I think the distotion is the best for metal as you get thickness only with clarity and a good tight low-end and it deos good for both lead and rythym, whereas I find the jb sounds beter on leads than it deos rythym. That gritty quality I was talking about. God bless!!!

Well, if it's true what the guys are saying, that the JB was used on Judas Priest's quot;Painkillerquot;, then it's awesome for heavy metal.

Death: Invader
Black: Distortion
Thrash: Distortion
Glam: JB
Trash: JB
Speed: JB / DD /Custom
Power: Custom
Nu: EMG-HZ, BC Rich or Squier pickups

All around metal use: Neither, the Duncan Custom rules them all as an allrounder
