I'm back again.. me and ArtieToo have been trying to sort this problem out, but its wretched. (well more ArtieToo lol)

Im putting a dimarzio breed in the neck and a standard ibby single coil is staying in the middle.

we've tried a couple of different wiring ideas, but it always seems to leave position 4 on the selector switch out of phase (i.e. the neck bucker and the sing coil) and a really really twangy dead thin tone. But both pickups work fine by themselves.

Has anyone done this before... please theres gotta be someone

I'm in pain now lol

Kev

this is how far we got...

from : localhost//forum/showthread.php?t=38375

other wise i'll have to take it to a tech, which i really resent as its probably so simple.

Short of trying ever possible wire combination this is what i may have to do ...

If reversing hot and ground on the neck pup doesn't fix it, it isn't a phase problem. (reversing the middle SC pup would mess up the B/M combo). Are you splitting the humbucker? Some pup combo's make for odd combo tones. A vintage rail and a 59 combined are way brighter than I would have ever expected when used together for example.

Its really weird, but the output is seriously seriously low, on position 4 and i just know it aint right, no bass or anythng.

The switches Ibanez uses are pretty screwy. If you wire the Dz in exactly as the stck pup was you are splitting coils on the HB which would drop the output considerably.

I was so caught up in the wiring, that I didn't even think of that.

As the next troubleshooting step, I think I'd isolate the DMZ black and white wires. That is, short them to each other, but don't let them touch anything else. See how it sounds then. (You'ld have normal DMZ humbucker operation in the #4 and #5 positions.)

HOORAH! I've finally solved it by means of random wiring lol

I've put green dimarzi to white ibby, red white dimarz to red ibby, and black and bare to ground!!!

It works like a treat now!!!

WOO!

Thanks for everyones help in the matter!
