Would Seymour-Duncan Vintage, Hot, or Custom P-90's fit into a Gibson SG Standard or Epiphone G-400.

Just to note,
the dimensions of a P-90 are 3.3quot; x 1.28quot;.
humbuckers (including pickup cover) are 2.75quot; x 1.5quot;.

No. You would need to route out the sides of the existing hole. You may also need to make it deeper. P-90s are a pain to install in a guitar not already set up to take them. The quot;hybridquot; type of P-90 that mounts to a pickguard is not the easiest to find either. If you want P-90s in an SG, go get a Classic- they are awesome. The second option is to try a set of Phat Cats.

Phat Cats would be my choice. they will allow you to sample a quality P-90 soound with the ability to go right back to humbuckers if you don't like them.

the standard Phats are modeled on duncan's vintage P-90, if you want something a bit hotter, you can call the custom shop and have them wind you a couple of Phat Cats to your specs.

Get Phat cats, they give you a good sound (it would seem) and look cool. If you want the quot;black soapbarquot; look (a la Pete Townsend), though, get a different axe.

i really really really wish they made phat cats with just a black plastic cover. i dont see why they couldnt do it. cause i really want a neck phat cat, but a metal covered pickup would look really weird on any of my guitars

I wish they made Phat Cats in the same three models as the SD P90s: Vintage, Hot and Custom.

I think the Gibson P-94 came in a black.

yeah, but i want the tone of the duncan vintage P-90 (or as close as possible, in the case of the phat cat). plus, gibson pickups have rediculous prices

I don't think a covered pickup would look weird in an Explorer, even with an uncovered bridge pickup.

thats not the one i wanna put it in anyway though. itd probably go in my viper, which is dark red with all black hardware......not exactly a welcome home for a chrome or gold covered pickup
