i have a zebra jb for bridge and may want to put a jazz neck in that's black on both plates right now..but i have a creme plate i could put on to match to match..before i get into a whole bunch of trouble, is it as simple as undoing the screws and swapping plates?
thanks in advance for tips
Yeah, It is simple. First you have to unwind all of the wire from the first bobbin. Set this aside (you will use it later) Transfer all of the wire from the second bobbin to the first...
assuming that's a joke..ha ha
Not sure what you mean by quot;platequot;.
Are you talking about swapping bobbins?
This would alter the characteristics of the pickup.
It isn't as simple as just swapping out a few screws you'd have to wire the things in as well and that's tricky. Tenax was only half joking...
Basically, if you have to ask if it can be done, you are probably not equipped to do it, sorry.
change the color of the puckup? unless it;s a single coil, it cannot be done without rewireing. you're better off trading or selling the pickups and getting ones of apropriate color
i just mean the top plate the screws go through..you know..the cream or black, etc. i was hoping you could simply unscrew and lift them off and change them? if not..no big whoop. i've been looking for pics online of a pickup going through assembly so i can understand and see the components..if anyone has seen such a beast, send me a link?
thank
Those are the bobbins...the pickup wire is wrapped around them. There is no way to switch them without rewinding the entire bobbin.
Here's a good pic of a bobbin:
