Well, i came home from sEattle with the Goldtop LP and lo and behold, on my front door step were the set of Antiquity P90s I ordered. Just the ticket for a nice evening of playing guitar tech.
First of all, the pups sound great (duh!)
Secondly, I do not believe the neck on this guitar has ever been adjusted. I really worked it over set up wise and got it playing right. The fretboard was just filthy. I'm also pretty sure the board hadn't been oiled in a long time. The biggest evidence of that were these little hairline cracks on a few frets ends (frets 15 thru 19) where the binding covers the fret ends. Wood shrinks, pulling the binding in with it, frets don't shrink, binding cracks on the fret ends. No big deal, very hard to see. The good oil down I gave it ought to let the wood swell back up a tiny bit.
I think I'm going to like this thing. Just need to pop a set of strap locks into it and I'm ready to go.
One more bonus, the cream covers from Duncan match the pickguard a bit better than the Gibson ones. The Gibson p90 covers look a bit darker than the pickguard. Almost a peach color versus the yellowish cream pickguard. The antiquity covers were more towards the yellowish cream so, I think they make the guitar look that much better.
anyone want to buy a PRS? I don't think it's going to get much playing time anymore.
Congrats on your new toy Scott! Sounds like a great Paul. Which PRS are you selling? Didn't know you were here in Seattle, i could've invited you for a jam
we should hook up with Craig who lives in weenatchee as well.
You just gotta keep rubbin it in don't ya
Man, I want a sweet Gibby with P-90s.

You don't look at the mantlepiece when you're poking the fire, as the old saying goes.

I wonder how much Scott would want for it... Probably will not be cheap considering its not only a guitar - it's a swimming pool.

Well, since you asked, I like the neck on this one a lot. Same size pretty much as my 2002 R8. This R6 is a 98.
Guitar was in fantastic shape, weighs in about 9 lbs. Long neck tenon and all that.
I have ordered a lightweight tail piece from Stew Mac for 25 bucks or so. I'm trying to get the hardware the same on both reissues. THe 2002 R8 came with the lightwegith TP and I put a tonepros TOM on it.
I just love p90 guitars anyway. Never met one I didn't find some redeeming value in. The tone is just stellar. It's got that Les Paul heft that I love, good neck, wonderful frets, vintage everything. I dont' think this guitar was played that much.
If you love goldtop les pauls and you already have a humbucker Les paul, this is a good guitar for variety. I love it.
Plus mine came in one of the older brown lifton cases that I like.
I'll be ordering a tone pros TOM for it soon. I just want to try the new TP first.
Hey Scott, have you tried the McCarty Soapbar?
- I recently tried one up against an r6, and had a real hard time figuring out which I liked best. The R6 seemed a bit fatter, and the McSoap seemed a little more articulate.
Thanks, Scott.
this thread is a g.a.s. starter if i ever read one!!!
