Hey guys,
I've got a Jackson DR7, which is kinda 'rare' (obscure is a better word ), I presume. I can't find it for sale anywhere except eBay every so often, and it's hard enough to find a solid retail price as it is. The same goes for any and all information and support, unfortunately.
I took the guitar around to some music stores the other day to get some prices, and the general consensus was either A) quot;Keep your piece of ****, I'm sure as hell not buying it.quot; or the slightly more common B) quot;$80.quot;
Anyway, I've just decided to keep the guitar and try and make it into something I can enjoy, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some info as to where I can buy replacement parts for seven string guitars. I'm really looking for any and everything. This means machine heads, a bridge (has a string thru body), and so fourth. I'm going the extra mile though, and I'm going to replace all the parts, including pickups and pots. I'm planning on replacing my Duncan Designed HB7 set with the quot;real dealquot; SH-4/SH-2 set, and then coil tapping them and using push-pull pots.
Anyway, that's beside the point. The guitar came with a unique finish (deep candy blue, in Jackson terminology) which is a plus, in my eyes. The downside is that the same applies to every solitary bit of hardware. It's an odd, milky kind of chrome. It looks nice, but a lot of the parts are scratched and rusted, so I want to replace them.
Well, to avoid going on the longest rant ever, I just need some info on replacement parts for a Jackson 7-string. Neck plates, frets, etc. All of the stuff that can't be interchanged with a 6-string essentially (mainly the electrical stuff, e.g. pots, knobs).
Also, just because I get the feeling someone might advise against doing fret work, I might as well state that my guitar was a refurbished/secondhand model. The factory problem with the guitar is the fretwork, so it's practically begging to be fixed.

Not quot;rarequot; or quot;Obscurequot;, but merely been discontinued for the better part of a decade after only meing made for about 2 years

No music store pays decent used value, period. But generally DR-7s go for under 250$ on ebay, lust under 300 for DR-7Ts (floyded), and RR-7s /KE-7s up to 350-400.....

The bridge and tuners are Gotoh-made, shouldn´t run into any problems there with normal use (or are you just looking for a color change?)

Actually, the hardware finish is called quot;Satin Chromequot; and has been used by most manufacturers ever since Wilkinson and Sperzel started it up in the early ´90s... Satin Chrome tuners I think are only available aftermarket from Sperzel, though.. at least I haven´t seen any others yet. It´s not directly related to this high gloss Blue that the guitar has

Neck plate: probably not really a good idea if you don´t want to redrill the mounting holes, IIRC the 7 string plates are wider... if not any standard neckplate will work
Fretwire is bought in rolls
pots and knobs: every guitar parts supply shop in the world
should have all you need... Finding a 7 string tune-o matic will be tough, though.....a Jackson dealer may be able to get you another one (in satin chrome, not chrome, black or gold))

If this is your first one I´ll still advise against it... I guarantee you WILL screw it and thereby the guitar up unless you´re some sort of Luthier-superman (Read quot;utterly unplayable and now worth absolutely zeroquot;)... better to pay the 250 bucks for a refret and a setup.... Especially the way your post quot;worksquot; on me (it doesn´t seem to me that you´ve really thought this through yet or done much research...)
