how much should it cost to get a music shop to install your pickups for you? long and mcquage said 40$ each pickup, that seems like a hell of alot... do they just charge lots for that or what?..

(Im in Canada Remember)

Damn...I only charge my friends like 5 bucks. lol.

Then again I'm not a pro.

Here's another option though: pick up a nice $10 soldering iron, some rosin-core solder, and solder wick, find a basic tutorial on soldering, get a wiring schematic from duncan or guitarelectronics.com, and do it yourself. Total investment should be about 15 dollars or so.

It ends up being a great investment in the long run. Soldering is real easy once you get the hang of it, and gettin the hang of it aint too hard.

(edit, US dollars)

i got my JB installed for 10quid thats around $18 but expect to pay up to around $27

27$ each pickup or 27$ all together?

i paid SGD$20 (USD$10?) for it all together.

I charged a guy $20 per pickup on a couple of occasions. $40 per pickup ($80 per guitar!) does make it worth while to spend not even half that on a soldering iron, some solder, and a book on guitar electronics. It's really not difficult as the man says.

Just make sure to turn off/unplug the solder iron when you're done!

...and get a 45w, not a 25 like I did! It is basically useless. Go get yourself an iron, check out the Duncan scematics and go to town...you should learn this kind of thing anyway! If you will be hooked on Duncans...and you will be doing alot of swapping! Save yourself some money in the long run.

BTW, I would not pay more than $50 for two pickups installed anywhere!

You can get rosin core solder and the soldering iron from sears. Sears is for queers.

k well maybe i'll learn to do this after i get these installed, cause i wanna get em done really soon and it'll take me a while to go and get all the supplies because most of it you can never find in my pooey own, but whatever, i'll learn that eventually but i just want these ones installed asap

i think eor's was $40 to swap both, but another $30 to split and tap the neck. i was told here that was a little on the high side at the time.

love,
eor

I change pickups for friends for $5 an hour
