I've got this Red Epiphone dot That I hate. Not cause its a bad guitar or anything (actully one of the best epi dots I've ever played), But Because It was a gift from my ex-wife. And She's done alotta Bad stuff to My daughter and I. So The guitar just has lots of Bad Vibes for me. So I'm thinking of Tradeing it in, or selling it. And I was wondering if anyone knew what the trade in value of these are? Or what the going rate for a used one is?
Its pretty much stock, Cept for the aftermarket pickups I put in it. A 59' in the neck, and a gibby 498t in the bridge. Its also got a few stickers on it, But those come off quite easily, and could be removed if It would improve the trade in/resale value.
any replys are Much appreciated.
thanks in advance,

you got married pretty young bro!
ok, just a suggestion. lose those stickers and put those stock pickups back in if you still have them. aftermarket pickups are worth next to nothing if you decide to sell your dot. also, check out ebay for the approximate prices of used epi dots. that should set you in the ballpark.

And at the time it seemed like the quot;rightquot; thing to do. But turns out, that sumtiems the quot;rightquot; thing, isn't always the smart thing. She turned into a junkie and abandon my daughter and I. So yeah, lt;theres the explaination of why I hate the guitar now. haha
But yeah right after typeing that out I thought about it and figured It would be best to put the stock pickups back in, and take the stickers off. Mainly cause I like a couple of the stickers alot, and Could transfer them to a guitar I like more. haha.
But ebay. thats a good idea. Thanks man

My guess (based on selling my Epi Sheraton II a few years back) is that you should be able to get about 70% of what MF charges for them, give or take, which would be about $320. If you sell it within the next month or so you might be able to get more, as prices tend to rise just before Xmas with people buying gifts and just after Xmas with people spending Xmas cash. Some models would likely do better before, while more specialty instruments are likely to do a bit better afterwards. Just depends on whether you think it's the sort of instrument that people might buy for others or the type that is going to be bought by the ultimate recipient. Yours could kinda go either way.

But I highly doubt I'de get anywhere near that as a Trade in at a guitar shoppe. So I dunno. On the one hand its like, selling stuff yourself is more time consumeing and requires more effort. But on the other hand, I'de likely get much more if I sell it myself vs. use it as a trade in.
Thanks for the reply

You're probably gonna get $150 ± as a trade. The good pickups will add nothing to the trade value and the stickers will lessen it.
I'd try to sell it on the board here. Dots are great guitars. I had one that I put a set of Seth Lovers in and it totally rocked. I bet someone here would like a nice Dot.
Definitely try the forum and eBay first. Trade-in's at shops are usually pretty bad in terms of what you get. After all, they buy it from you and have to resell it and still make a profit.
Pull those pups out and sell them seperately. You'll definitely fair better in the long run.

I know I wouldn't buy a guitar from somone that couldn't take clear pictures of it, I wouldn't expect anyone else too either.
haha, Maybe I should make my girl friend take pictures of it for me (she's got a good camera). Every picture I take comes out blurry no matter what camera, Probably due to me being all twitchy and stuff. Haha.

thanks for the reply - edwardLook me up bro!
Considering the wealth of guitars you have, it doesn't seem such that you need the 200 dollars. Perhaps stick the thing in a case, and put it in the attic/cellar, far from sight... Wait 15 years and give it to your daughter. The bad vibes will be gone, and she'll have a nice guitar that's connected to her mother. Things will all be softened out with time.

Being as She Really hasn't seen her mother since she was about 12 months old, and who knows When (or even if) she'll see her again? It would be a good way to have Some sort of connection with her mother, Even if its not a real Connection.
I actully Have another guitar set aside for her already (sea foam green strat I bought the Day After she was born, back when I still had money). That I have setting in a case in the Basement of my fathers house, and Has only been played Once by me (at the store the day I bought it just to make sure it didn't suck). I was planning on giveing it to her on her 13th birthday.
But I'm also wondering weather It would be a good idea to give her sumthing her mother Gave me? Like I'm just thinking about my sister. Cause she's pretty much in the same boat as my daughter is. My sis is my half sister, and she hasn't seen her Real dad since she was 2. And she Hates him. When She turned 18 my mother gave her a locket That my sisters real father had given my mother. And my sister (being as she hates her real dad) Proceeded to Pawn it, and Totally devistated my mother. And I'm just worried the same exact thing would happen with my daughter. She might Hate her mother For haveing abandon her, and decide to set the guitar ablaze. I dunno.
This is sumthing to think about though.

Yeah I can see how that connection thing might end up being a situation where the guitar becomes the object (for your daughter) of that ill feeling. Perhaps the dot should go then. You've done very well pre-planning with the sea-foam strat! It's obvious you cared from day one! It's a shame that's rare these days.
Hope you find the best solution for the Dot... strength mate
