Finally just about finished it...MJ

Very cool! You'd make a killing offering your services to the forum.

these are killer. I've seen your posts of this on a bunch of other forums also.

awesome...
how hard was it to do?

damn sweet, i love blue LED's.

It wasn't too hard...I've done a few other fiber optic jobs and each one gets easier as you go along. There's lots of little things that can make a huge difference, so you learn as you go.

I was going to use green with this one, but the LED I had wasn't bright enough so I used blue for now. I'll try green again once I get another bright green LED (I've got it wired in the cavity so you can easily change out the LED for another color).

MJ

Very cool!, I like the fact you can change colour easily too...

wow, that came out great man! nice work!!! i seriously need to have that done to one of my guitars!!

-Mike

Great work,do you add a switch for the L.E.D.'s or do you wire it into the input?
Do you have a schematic you can post?

I have a few different switch options. If the guitar already has active pickups, I can use the 9 volt battery and wire it all to the jack so that the LED turns on and the Fiber Optics light up when the guitar is plugged in. Or I can use a push/pull pot...or a regular mini toggle switch.

I don't have anything written down yet, it's still all in my head I'll get to that soon though...

MJ

do you have to drill a rooting thru the neck to get the fiber optics to all the fret markers? if yes how do u drill it?

Not the neck, but the fretboard. There's a small channel from each marker to the treble side of the fretboard. They all meet up at the treble side and go down the length of the neck and come out together.

MJ

how about an expensive RGB-LED? you could dial in alomst any color you like... or could sync your pickupswitch to the LED so each setting would have a specific color

I've thought about that and similar ideas but I don't think it's something I would do right now. A lot of those do cost a lot more and usually require more space/wiring.

cool. does that mean we can see the fiber opt at the treble side?

Dude that looks so awesome!!! I am impressed!!!

No, the fiber optic strands are 100% hidden in the fretboard's underside. When I mentioned the treble side, I ment the under side of the fretboard, about 1/4quot; away from the treble side is where the route starts. You can think of it similar to how the e and B string look in terms of width in relation to the fretboard. That's basically what's going on except the strands are placed into the route and sealed in there.

MJ

have you found a way to illuminate the fret markers (on the board, not on the side)?

awesome dude !

Sure, depending on the size you could use fiber optic strands or real LEDs.
