please chime in and help me feel UH not so damn nuts!
i swap at least once a week sometimes more!
is this normal?
please say it is? I go in spurts like that, I'm getting ready to start that cycle again with my HH Tele. My standard tele is finally finished with the Broadcaster/Blues Special and I am extreemly happy with it as well as the Antiquity 1 set in my Strat. I may make up some different pickguards for the strat some where on down the line. In fact....hmmm.....you know what would look cool....my CS Antiquity, uncovered(double cream) with the Texas Hots in my strat. Oh crap, the gears are turning!
I'm like that with components in my amp's preamp circuit
I'm like that with my pedalboard. Always swapping the OD and boosters in and out.
WICKED, what kind of quick connectors are you using for your quot;quick swapsquot;?
And no, it's not normal. You're weird and don't know what tone you want...lmao....just jokin', bro.

Pretty much everybody in here.
I haven't swappd pickups in years, (been using a JB and Jazz forever) then about 3 months ago, I went on a mission to equip several Les Pauls with pickups that would compliment each guitars own sound.
I've pretty much settled on 6 combinations, and hope to use these for awhile, though I need a few more guitars:
1: Burstbucker #1 amp; #2. (Alnico 2)
2: Burstbucker #2 amp; #3. (Alnico 2)
3. Duncan '59 set. (Alnico 5)
4. Duncan Seth Lovers. (Alnico 5 Anniversary Edition)
5. Duncan Custom amp; Jazz. (Ceramic, A5)
6. Duncan 59B amp; Jazz. (Alnico 5)

please say it is? Nope, not me. You're the only one, weirdo.
I used to. Now I know what Duancans do what and I rarely need to change a pickup more than once. I pretty much get it right the first time. That said, once in a blue I will redeploy an axe for a different purpose or be curious about something new.
I've been known to do so.

Since I found this forum last year thats all I've done is swap out pup's.It just been recently that I think I've tested most of the waters and settled on some for each axe.It was taking over, thats all I thought about until I could get home to do it
I believe it's an unfortunate disease we all suffer from. Always looking for better tone.
I just wish there was ONE pickup that was evenly balanced EQ wise, had some decent output and cleaned up (I mean really cleaned up) when you rolled back your volume knob.
I've been trying to get a way from higher output pickups but every PAF type I come across seems really thin to my ears. Not remotely toneful, just shrill as all hell.
But I also realize that all guitars will sound different even with the same PU installed. Not to mention that instruments change and so do peoples tastes. Recently my main guitar sounds funky to me. Not broken, just different. Once again, on a pickup safari.

PAF Pro
Lately it's been me... In the past two weeks I've gone back and forth between an Air Norton, FRED, EMG 85, EMG 81, and back again many many times, and that two weeks includes the shipping time the trades and buying took.

you've come to the wrong place for that!
Well none of us is completely normal but I would tell you this:
The main goal is writting, playing and enjoying music, if you do that enough and still have time to indulge the opsession I guess you could go for it...
I myself noticed that when I get in one of those spurts it takes weeks and I am not productive and I loose motivation for writting...I am signed musician expected to come out with a full album once a year or at least year and a half.....So I force myself to snap out of it and get back to the creativity. You know there is many facts influencing the sound, just take the strings - every day they are older and sound differently....I use to change strings every 10 to 14 days.....So yeah - now I am on Paxil and everything looks better....
Stop yourself while you can my friend.....or white coats are waiting
Oh man , I install different pickups in my 2 Strats all the time. Over the last year and a half I`ve tried:
59 (3x)
CC
Custom
Blues Trembucker (2x)
JB (2x)
Screamin Demon
Screamin Demon Custon Shop
Vintage Rails
Cool Rails
SSL-2
Rio Grande BBQ
Dimarzio Virtual Hot PAF
Genesis Mr. Browney (2x)
Thanks to all of Lesters raving I`ll be the trying out the DD in the next couple weeks

1, I'd like to know too.
Yes i confess i do. My little son recently saw a guitar of a friend a mine. He asked where were the cables coming out of that guitar. We didn't understand first but my son only know my guitars with open wirings. Did i already spoil him for his future life as guitarist?
Not as much as you. I'm just a Catholic School teacher, so I'm not as rich as the rest of you guys
But yes, I'm a tinker, and like others here its not just pickups. It's guitars, pedals (I have a lot -- but use very few at a time), and amps. Its fun and its part of the hobby (I don't have the time to gig much anymore).
