when i cut the baffle for my JBL to fit in my peavey classic cabinet, i had realized how poorly the baffle was cut for the old 2x12 config. With the speakers mounted in, it seems as if they had no space to vibrate back and forth, wood was almost touching the doped edges of the speaker. Do all companies make their baffles this sloppy?
I cut mine using a compass and a jig saw. I drew the circle with the compass, then cut around it. I left about a half inch of space that only overlaps the mounting ring around the speaker, the cone and the folded doped edges are all visible.
Is birch a good wood for this? I bought a pretty hard decent looking slab of birch plywood, 3/4''.
