What do you like about playing a double HB strat? Does it resemble the Thinline Tele tone?
Wouldn't know about the thinline tele tone, but I play double HB strats for a few reasons
- Comfy contours for arm tummy
- Scale length feels right for me. I prefer the tighter 25.5 to Gibson 24.75
- Fret access is pretty decent on a normal strat, and superstrats generally have even better high fret access
- Position of volume pot. I like to be able to reach it with my little finger.
- Position of toggle switch. Again, it's in an easy to hit place from my natural playing position.
- I like the brighter tone of maple bolt on necks.
- I like the general look/shape of strats.
A hollow Strat body could probably get pretty close to that Tele Thinline tone. Closer still if you put in the p'ups that are in the thinline (Wide Range Humbuckers).
I was thinking about going with a Kramer, but I may find a strat that I can use the body and get a flatter Jackson or Kramer style neck to go on it. I really like the hockey style neck, for better or worse...Then I'll get an HH pickguard for HH's and I'd be totally set. APH-1 in the neck and 59 TB or SH-11, CC, in the bridge and I'll be ready to go, right?
Yes, I've caught a bad case of whatever it is that Jake E Lee likes to do with his strats.
I don't have any experience with the thinline Tele tone, but I do dig the HH Gamp;L Legacy I picked up not too long ago. I'm digging the alder and JB/'59 mix, though I may change to a CC/APII combo here soon. It's playable as heck, and has a great full sound that is quot;airyquot; at the same time.
I have spent some time with both, and my HH strat (or HH tele) does nto sound like a traditional tele. If you are comparing it to the dual bucker 72 style thinline, it is similar. The pups are so different though it is rough to compare.
Strats are the most comfortable and best looking guitar to me, and the music i play pretty much has to be done with humbuckers, thats why i play them. Never played a thinline tele, but i doubt it would sound anything like a HH strat.

Full and quot;airyquot; is a great description.
That sounds really great. This HH business with a strat is sounding better and better.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
I've just finished putting an HH strat together. I'll post pics shortly. Quick spec sheet - fiesta red alder body, reverse/lefty neck (rosewood board), standard trem, sperzels, graphite nut, PG/Custom hybrid duncans (red/black zebra), black hardware, black anodised pickguard, 3 way and coil tap. It's sweet!!!
