from : localhost/that accurate? Any additional info you think is pertinent?

That's the story as I have heard it before...

Thats right...what else do you want to know?

quot;The bridge pickup became the JB because you can play Jazz and Blues with it.quot;

Yeah ... and EVH stands for quot;Evenly Voiced Harmonicsquot;. Whatever you say Seymour

Nothing in particular, I just started to wonder about the Tele-Gib and found that link. Haven't even searched here for the same info...

So the axe is:

Swamp ash body
Maple neck
Maple fretboard
JB proto pup bridge
Jass neck proto pup neck
250K pots (mentioned occasionally on the JB threads on this forum)

What value tone cap?
Was there a bright cap?

I wanna make one !

Not sure about the caps and as for the pickups...becareful, there is a pickup called the JB Prototype. it has an alnico II magnet and sounds quite different that a JB.

I kinda disagree with comments about the name of JB (and EVH) regarding some suggestions (I am not saying that they were done here, but I, sure, read some of them on other boards). Is it fair for SWD to use the name JB and EVH with other words (instead of the names) involved?

I think yes, because afterall SWD is the person who manufactured them. This is true for both of these pickups. These pickups after being designed and manufactured by SWD became famous in the hands of Jeff Beck and EVH. Sure, but still SWD is the person who designed them. If SWD were to pay loyalty charges to Jeff Beck and EVH, Gibson should have made tons of loyalty charges to Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Peter Green, ... by the same reasoning. See my argument? But the only thing is about the names that is somewhat controversial. As a marketing technique I don't know how you guys would think if Gibson were to manufacture a LP (a non-custom shop one) calling it a Bluesbreaker LP for example. I would not like it that much, but still would not argue that Gibson has to pay loyalty charges to EC.

But this name thing is not the case for example with Pearly Gates, which is a copy of Rev. Gibbons' PAF. There the pickup is already there, already designed and manufactured. Thus, as it should have been, we are paying some loyalty charges to Gibbons' everytime we purchase his PAF clone.

Peace,

Best,

B

I think some of SWD's names are probably best said with a wink of the eye.

(but for different reasons)

I can't find a reference anywhaere, bu I am 95% sure that the value of the tone cap in the Tele-Gib is .05 uFD, to get those Wha Wah / train whistle effects.

I don't think it's unfair ... but it's pretty obvious why they chose the initials quot;JBquot;. If they called it the quot;Screaming Treble Monsterquot;, I doubt it would have sold as well.
