Ok, the BB's are on their way out. I'm really wanting to make this guitar as vintage and authentic as possible. It has aged hardware, so I am almost sold on Antiquities for it. I'll go with a standard Antiquity neck. However, I want a little more from the bridge position. I still want to retain a vintage sound, but it needs to have just a little something extra....

I have been reading about the S Deco bridge, 11.5 model specifically. I could order it thru the custom shop with a dun aged A5 and aged cover. Seems like from all accounts it still retains vintage flavor, but with a little extra. Or, Jeremy has told me that one of the best pups he has heard is an Antiquity bridge overwound to 10k.

Advice, thoughts, opinions? Which would you choose for this application and why?

I was looking at the S-Deco pups myself for my '58. i was wondering if they were in the quot;antiquityquot; family. i know that Jeremy Lollar used aged alnico V in his pups that were in the vintage guitar magazine PAF shootout. I like alnico II, but I was wondering how the S-Deco 10K would sound withan aged alnico V. Like yourself i want to try something in the vintage category. I am also interested in the overwound antiquity like Jeremy uses. Choices, Choices...

Craig

Also, would you get an overwound pup wax potted.

Jeff,
I'm putting Seths in my '57, since I already had a Seth neck. If I had aged hardware, I'd go with Antiquities. I like things simple, so the Ant @ 10k sounds like a find way to go... to me, a '57 should have A2 if you want to stay fairly authentic.

I'm also changing the pots to audio taper, and using the quot;50's wiringquot; that's posted on the LPF.

Yeah Curly....I plan to order the RS True Vintage kit when they are back in stock. Supposed to really open up the tone of the guitar, and make the volume and tone pots work like they should. I do want to stay as authentic as possible, and I think you can get the S Deco 11.5 in A2 as well. It might be tight enough at that K reading with the A2....and I am an A2 kind of guy, although the 59' has been growing on my lately. I have a Seth neck, but it has just a little too much honk in the midrange for me, so I'm hoping to tame that down a bit with the antiquity. BTW, you can get antiquities with new covers...all you have to do is ask MJ.

Craig....If I went with the S Deco, I believe I would have it wax potted. If I go with the Antiquity at 10k, probably unpotted....but I would ask MJ just to be sure.

Any other thoughts, comments are greatly appreciated. Am I overlooking something else from the Custom Shop? Money is not the issue at all, it's the right pup that matters.

Hey Jeff, what are the new covers, just regular new non-aged?

and Jeff I was wondering if an S-Deco alnico II is basically an overwound antiquity? do you know? Sorry for the hijack, but what does S-Deco mean anyway?
