If you replaced the stock tuners what did you replace them with and why? Where they drop in or did they require drilling(Not a problem)? How well did the new tuners hold tuning?

I don't have an MIM, I do have a Squier Affinity Strat. If you think the MIM's tuners are crap, try to imagine MY position, LOL. I went surfing on eBay for an affordable set and eventually went for a set of 2nd hand locking Schallers for a VERY sharp price (actually incredibly cheap). In the end, I was outbid by 1 euro. Then I spotted some 2nd hand non-locking Gotoh's from a MIJ Strat that I bid on and now have on my Strat.

Being lefthanded, however, the choice is fairly easy as there is NO choice. I was lucky I found lefthand tuners at all! On eBay.com there's many lefty sets of Sperzel locking tuners and the like, but I live in the Netherlands and I'm not willing to pay such high shipping costs for tuners from the US, so I got mine from Germany, which is right next to the Netherlands. I got them for 12 euros 4 euros shipping, which in total is probably some 20 dollars.

I like Gotoh's, they're also on my Ibanez and Jackson (stock).

The Fender branded Schaller locking tuners are great. They drop right in, no drilling required. I put them in my MIM Fat Strat, and they do a wonderful job, a bit smoother than Sperzels as well. they are a bit expensive though, since they are Fender branded.

I've bought locking Fender Schallers for my parts-o-caster on eBay. I liked being able to put them on with out either reeming the tuner hole or having to drill new holes for either screws or pins.

And after using locking tuners I'll use them on all my future project guitars.

Thanks guys, I've been watching some locking Fender branded Schallers on ebay. Currently at $44 7 for shipping. Getting pretty close to new price at $60 MF's.
