Hey guys, I mentioned a JCM800 4101 2x12 combo in another post. What are your thoughts opinions on this amp? It has two inputs, one high and one low. Would I be able to use an A/B switcher to switch betweeen both inputes, to simulate channel switching? And would I be able to achieve a good high gain tone thrhough the high input channel with an OD pedal of some sort? Thanks for any help. I'd just like some input on this amp before I make the trek to go check it out.

You cannot, to my knowledge, use an A/B box to switch between the inputs.

If I remember my combo model numbers right, this is the 100 watt combo version of the 2203. You will most definately be able to get some nice high gain tones through the high input...without a pedal. A pedal will take you further into high gain territory.

There are a lot of options for getting the sound you want out of a single channel Marshall. Setting the amp to the max clean headroom and then using a pedal like the Fulltone Fulldrive II which has an overdrive setting and then a solo boost on top of that....it's like having a 3 channel Marshall. Or, you can have it modded by someone like Splawn amps, or Jeff Seal, and they can actually turn it into a 2-3 channel Marshall.

The key is how much can you pick it up for. I have seen them going for crazy $$ on eBay. I paid $550 for mine about 2 years ago. I have the 4212, which is the combo version of the 2205. I absolutely love it, and had it modded by Jeff Seal.

Jeff, is yours a 2x12?

What speakers do you have in it?

BluesGuy, sorry for the hijack......

I work with a guy that's a pretty good guitarist. The last time I saw him, we were talking gear amp; he mentioned he might sell a 70s Marshall 2x12 50watter that he wasn't playing any more.

I don't know a lot about the combo models amp; don't recall which one he had, but I thought I might take a look at it. I'll let ya' know if it's worth a damn amp; if your deal there falls thru, you might be able to grab this up......

I will probably transfer my broken in 75's to my Marshall cab, and perhaps put a G12H or something else in there as well.
