I was considering making it a VH strat by getting a one bucker, one volume knob black pickguard and getting it painted white(sorry no stripes)
it would have the lone duncan custom TB-5
or should i do all the above but keep a single at the neck(lil 59)?
i always loved the look of a one volume know one bucker strat
Truly in my opinion, you MUST get the stripes painted. I'm not trying to be a smart ass either. I'm trying to scrounge up some cash for a guitar body that I can paint the EVH stripes on myself.
Well, if it were me, I would go one hum, one single. I already have a one pickup guitar (see avatar). Go with one knob though and use a push/pull to select between them (ala George Lynch). Then you have a van halenized/lynched strat.
why don't you keep the lonestar and wait some time untill you have the money to buy a guitar like the one you describe?
Bridge humbucker Strats definately sound differant/better without the two single coils. It's because the two single coils magnetic polepieces pull the strings out of tune a little bit. The neck single coil pulls the most. If you want the real early EVH tone try it with just a bridge humbucker. Lew
Now that I have 2 great strat, I am entertaining the idea to quot;vanhalenizequot; my third (a sienna burst tx special strat with maple neck) strat. I am going to be using my 8.70-75K PG (a PG with an a5 magnet) in the bridge, a surfer single coil in the middle and a 8.10K PGb (with an a3 magnet) in the neck.
PS. Am thinking of doing a funky wiring to get all the possible combinations (except the out-of-phases) with independent volume/tone controls on the bridge and neck/middle position.

That's really weird I was talking to D!ck about the good Dr. last night...then he appears.

Howdy Lew, missed you too man!
Had some heavy teaching and research assignments on both sides of the Atlantic. But now I am back!
Maybe I should ask to get that quot;Master of Turkey Tonequot; rank. What'd you say?

My brother and I are trying to decide on the very same thing, except this one is striped, hehehe. I'd go with just the bucker in the bridge if it were me, but I'm thinking he needs another pup to get more variety since this will be his only guitar. You seem to be in the same boat as me (a few guitars) so a single bucker would be the way to go, IMO.

hey guys check this out my bud heard about my wanting a VH strat but not losing out on tha tonal options of a H/S/S
and he said i got the perfect solution for ya!
he then brings over two single coils that resemble EMG's (all black, no logo, low magnet pull passives)
so you can barley see these things but they work and sound damn good too!
cost me a drink at the bar for the two from my bud!
i will post a pic when i get the chance
Are they black Lace Sensors? Those have really low pull and are passive. I guess for the prices of a few beers you can't go wrong.

i think so??? they have no name or logo anywhere on them
but sound great and have barely any pull????
they sound real stratty and have that elusive quack going on when i play in the 2 and 4th postions(ala eric johnson,SRV,jimi)
i have my switch set up to cut one coil of the duncan custom when playing the 4th postion
these sound fantastic and thats all that matters to me even if they are made in china! !

Very cool. Sounds like the silver or maybe gold sensors. Those are the vintage Strat-type models. If they have orange and white wires, they're Lace Sensors. I have a white red sensor not in use at the moment.
