Hello all!!!

I was wondering if you guys had any good thoughts on replacement pickups for a Dean Avanache (basswood/maple neck/rosewood/floating trem)? I prefer noiseless singles in the neck and middle with a complimentary bridge humbucker. I am not as familiar with singles so I am not sure what to do and i want to stick with passives. Preferably versatility, but I'd like to be able to do classic rock to heavier stuff like Alice in Chains, George Lynch, etc.

Also, I'd like to replace the pots/caps.

Thanks!!!!!

I say TB-5 Custom for the bridge,, I used Custom trembucker in my Squire Showmaster Basswood, rosewood/maple neck, and flyod rose),, and it rocks!!
I don't about the single coil, I haven't try the single coils from SD,,
How bout changing your pots to 500k,, It should make the custom scream..

Well...for Lynch's tone, the Demon might be a good place to start (change out those hex polepieces). Jerry Cantrel used the JB at some point. I have no experience with the Customs so I can't really comment.

in my experience, it can be hard matching single coils in the neck and middle to a hot bridge pickup. There is just too much of a volume drop, especially with vintage output single coils. Maybe something more progressive like the cool rails / hotrails series. Also, Kinman and Dimarzio virtual vintage series may be worth a look.

Thanks guys! Good advice.

I was initially looking into an EMG 85/SA/SA set but thought I'd stick with passives as with my other guitars.

The JB was an initial thought, but as mentioned....the output may be too great for single stacks. I probably won't use the middle pickup much so I may just disconnect it.

I guess Dimarzios and Rios are worth a look, but I wanted to look at Duncans first.

The Vintage rails come higly recommended for quiet operation and single coil-like tones.

Funny thing is, I never find much usefull with the tone wizard so I came up with a combo that might be nice.....looking through the advice you all have provided I was thinking George Lynch bridge bucker and Vintage rails for the middle and neck. I'll have to determine the pots/cap scenario.

bump.
