How do you like it?

Its a great pickup. Transparent and articulate with good mids and highs. It is my only alnico V pickup so it doesnt seem that tight to me compared to the Invader and Dimebucker.

Sounds really good in basswood. By that I mean basswood is dark, almost like a big 'ol blanket is covering the speakers. Only to have it removed and the amp comes to life. My '59-n and JB (my favorite combo) sound awesome in alder, but basswood just killed them. But it could be that I need new tubes.

I have to tell you, I think your right.. I've got a Basswood made Ibanez RG 550 with an edge trem and I stuck the Duncan Distortion in the bridge and it's just too quiet, and something about it that I don't like, yet the Dimarzio pickups sound great in these guitars.. Dimarzio and Ibanez though, are partially married at the hip if you ask me, because they've been working together for a long long time.. so it's no mistake that they sound good in basswood.. They've had a lot of experience in working with those woods.. and their pickups.. What's funny is that I love the Duncan Distortion in about every other guitar I've stuck it in, too me it is the JB on steroids, and not quite so harsh as the JB.. Yet I like the JB don't get me wrong.. Anyway, I ccouldn't get either to work in another Ibanez I had, so I'm convinced what you say about them is correct..

First, I have to qualify this and say I think the PAF Pro is a wonderful pickup, in most guitars. It's just a good all-around pickup that can usually get the job done well.

However, I have a particularly dark sounding Yamaha SBG 500 (it's set neck; mahogany, I think, but I'm not positive...), which is my second guitar. I thought it sounded great, but when I got my new strat with Alnico II Pros, I couldn't enjoy playing the Yamaha anymore, because the strat sounded so much sweeter. I put it in the neck position and it works okay for me there, but in other quot;brighterquot; guitars (alder, basswood), the PAF Pro is a killer pickup. I think I heard somewhere that it works well in hollow and sei-hollow guitars too.
BTW. I put a Dimarzio Dual Sound (same as super distortion exacltly, but comes with a mini switch) in the bridge and I'm less happy with that. I thought a lot of guys were using these in LPs, so it should work; but it doesn't. Way too many mids - I *like* lots of mids but this is downright barky sounding. I'm gonna try something less hot and brighter, like a Pearly Gates, or maybe even an Alnico II Pro HB.

Dimarzio pickups are better quality in my opinion and much more versitile in guitars... the PAF PRO is an amazing pickup

The claim that dimarzios do well in basswood makes sense to me. In the bridge position, my dimarzio PAF7 has a very decent amount of upper mids and not too much bass. I can see how that voicing would do well in basswood.

PAF Pro is a great pickup....it's really neutral in the EQ so it's fairly transparent IMO.

It's very balanced....almost too balanced...it does many things well though.

It's good pup, in the old Gibbo tradition.
The Bare Knuckle Mule blows it away, tho.

I just find it a little thin on the low end...

Whereas basswood has too much bass for it's own good. We've found a match!

Its a great alround pickup good for the bridge if you dont need to much output, fairly bright but creamy at the same time and the cleans sound good. It works fairly well in the neck aswell, pretty smooth and thick but i would be careful to put it in a guitar in the neck spot if it is already dark sounding. I reckon its the benchmark dimarzio pup which all the other dimarzio's take a rough guide from.

I used one for 10 years in the bridge of a strat. It is a great sounding pickup but I found myself pushing it way to hard because of a lack of output. I was bashing the guitar pretty hard. I tried the Double whammy and it had much the same tone with more low end and output. Although the double whammy didn't have as much of that beautifull treble response. Also the PAF Pro still sounds good after a lot of processing.

i love my PAF pro! came stock in my talon V, its amazing for sweep picking!

I like the Paf Pro, but the Breed neck is just a tad sweeter.

I don't like it much. I've tried them in a couple of guitars, including an Ibanez USA Custom at neck and bridge. They are balanced, but in my case they just aren't thick enough for me. Just my 2 cents worth...

The treble is nice and sweet but i found the Bass and mids being muddy as hell on my jem (basswood and rosewood tend to be dark) so i swaped it for a screaming demon. Much better.

I prefer it in the bridge. As a neck pickup it just bothered me, I can't really explain it. All in all I found it to be OK at best, so I don't recommend it to anyone. The Breed is a huge step up.

Correcto Mundo..!! Angus Is A Monster..!!

Duncan distortion is more like PAF pro.
