Would a Dimarzio Super Distortion be too dark and bassy in the bridge position of a mahogany body 25.5 scale 24 fret guitar? The type of sound I'm aiming for is something similar to Venom's 'Black Metal' album. I was also considering the Duncan Distortion, but I was afraid it might be a bit too bright. I already got that sound covered with the 500T in my other guitar. But I guess I'd rather have this guitar be too bright than too bassy. Does anybody think that the Super Distortion will work out ok though? Or will it be too bassy for the sound I'm looking for?

the Distortion in mahogany its to bright, or 'shrill' as most would say. Its very good from lead and rhythm metal. I've heard the Duncan Custom is pure bliss in mahogany, but I have no expirence with that.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

I think you could definetly make it work, but it depends on the rest of your rig as well.

Rock On

big 1 here
What do you have for amp(s) and effets? What's the fingerboard made out of? (not always needed info) Whats the construction of the guitar?(bolt on, neck thru ect.)

You could also consider the super II pickup, its the same as the super distortion but more highs, lower bass.

The guitar is a bolt on neck with rosewood fingerboard. Amp is a Roland Vga-5 modeling amp. It does a JPM1 sound and also a metal sound.Originally Posted by Nite_Maresz_25the Distortion in mahogany its to bright, or 'shrill' as most would say. Its very good from lead and rhythm metal. Hmm. The tone guide on the Dimarzio website rates the Super II a 8 in treble and a 4 in bass which kinda seems like it'd be closer to the Duncan Distortion. I was wanting something a little less trebly than the Distortion or 500T, but if the Super Distortion is gonna be too bassy, I might go with the Distortion or Super 2 instead.

The best example of the Super Distortion in a Mahogany guitar is as always, Boston. Tom Scholz has been using a SD in his Les Paul for 30 years now. Sounds good to me!

I had a Super Distortion in a Jackson JJP (Dinky Les Paul, all mahogany, bolt on) and the best description I can give would be Kiss. It nailed the Ace Frehley, straight up. Not real familiar with Venom's sound, so I can't give advice there.
