I should have figured it would not work but all the places I talked to said it would. Nothing lines up on it. the only way I can use it is to make all new holes for the strings to pass through the body. I really don't want to do all that. Does anyone know where i could possible find an ashtray bridge with the brass saddles that will ork with out any major modding to the guitar. I tried stew-mac, callaham, and a guy on ebay that I read about in a thread on here. So far none of them can help me.

This is something i wondered about for a long time and i guess i got my answer reading about your bridge trouble... I was surprised to hear that the MIM Standard tele bridges work with Vintage Fender style tele bridges... I guess the MIA tele has a different screw pattern and the string holes are in a different place?

I find it odd the vintage tray won't work on the American Teles...unless it's an original oldie.
Callaham makes a 3 saddle brass version for the American, but it's not a stamped tray, they say it sounds better though.the tray i bought is a fender 50's reissue so that my be why it did not work. when i put it on my guitar to see if it would fit it was shorter than the bridge that came on mine. the back of the vintage bridge came to where my other bridges mounting holes are. i would say the string guide holes where about an 1/8th of an inch off or sothey were completely covered by the bridge tray. i did see that one on callaham. it does seen to be an upgrade. the reason i wanted the ashtray bridge is the side lip. those saddles kill the underside of my hand the way i play. and i always preffered the sound of brass over the stainless saddles.
