..... well I think I will be soon!
Since I put the Ants in my LP Classic, I've taken the Seths out of my LP Standard and have been giving the old Custom bridge / '59 neck combo another try. The Custom just ROCKS in that guitar, I absolutely love it , but I find the '59n a little too bassy however I adjust it. I've been thinking about buying a Jazz neck to put in there, BUT I have a spare set of Alnico II Pros sat here that were in the Classic before I put the Ants in. I loved the neck, but found the bridge a little too sterile and hi-fi for my tastes. Sooooooo....
Before I spend any more money I reckon I'm going to put the Alnico II Pro neck in there with the Custom bridge. I don't see many people combining a ceramic bridge humbucker with an A2 neck humbucker - why is that?
I'm going for it!
Anyone else?
Do it, because I was wondering the same thing. I'm thinking about replacing the APH(b) in my Hardtail with a Custom or something similar, now that I have 2 guitars with PAF bridges. I certainly think the APH has the ability to match well with it. I find the APH to be relatively loud .
Let me know how it sounds.
Well, the deed is done. Took out the '59n and put the A2Pn in there instead. It's late at night here, so the only testing I can do is through headphones, but the A2Pn and the Custom seem to balance just fine. I love each of these pickups individually, so it's just a question of seeing over the next few days how well they live together in the same guitar. Definitely prefer the A2Pn over the '59n in a Les Paul - there's just a bit too much bass in the '59n for me, can't dial it out.
So, who can offer thoughts on why we don't often hear of a ceramic bridge / alnico 2 neck combo? Maybe we do and I just missed it.
Anyone?
My buddy has an Invader/PG combo in his SG which is insane. But, it sounds great. Thats 3 ceramics to one alnico 2 mag.
Simon, I have not tried it but, I use a custom/PG in my Explorer and it almost sounds like they are made for each other. I dont see why the APH would be any different.
I've used a Custom/Seth combo in one of my Yamaha's for years. Granted, I don't pull that guitar out much anymore (needs a refret), but the Seth and the Custom get along swimmingly.
BTW Jeff, the APH/C5 combo works great in my '81 Hamer Special, so I assume that the APH/Custom combo will work great in your Dean.
