I have an old SG with a Duncan Distortion in the neck position. How would a JB do as a match in bridge position? I guess I want something other than another Distortion in the neck.

Without knowing what kind of music you're looking for (though I can guess if you use a distortion) I couldn't say for sure, but I bet you'd be happy with a JB. They're pretty versatile for different styles of music. I've even pulled off some cool *cringes* country sounds with mine (it was my guitar teacher's fault, I promise!).

Actually, I play a pretty wide range of music, but I like to think that all of it rocks. I got the Duncan Distortion in a box of miscellaneous parts and thought it sounded pretty good. It seems like the JB might have a little more bite to it... not as dark maybe as a distortion.

Plus, I have a Telecaster for the country stuff. I am trying to create a relatively diverse range of tones with the guitars I have laying around, and the SG is supposed to fit the rockin but not metal sounding role. I might end up putting the Duncan Distortion in the neck of my old Flying V that I am currently fixing back up.

I wish I had a magic box of miscellaneous guitar parts that had cool pickups in it.

I think that'd be a good choice for you then. While the JB was pretty much THE pickup for 80's metal, it's still good for almost anything else. I've had both the JB Jr and the JB that's in my Jackson. I enjoyed both, and used them happily for all kinds of rock and some blues.

I bought the box o' parts from a friend of my about 15 years ago as a favor. He wanted some other stuff and the box o' parts was part of the deal. I think I gave him $45 for it. It had the Duncan Distortion, some kind of Duncan P-90, a single coil of unknown origin, a couple of Gibson Humbuckers, and various tuning machines, bridges and so on. I had kind of forgotten about it until just recently. It was pretty fun to weed through it.
