I have an air norton neck humbucker in my american schecter and it seriously sounds like my bridge pickup, a tone pro humbucker, with the tone knob turned absolutely down. This pickup is practically useless unless I want to try to communicate with my dog or something. What can i do to liven it up or what should I replace it with? Evolution, 57, burstbucker, EMG 85? What guys? think neck humbucker shred-bright-single coil sound. Any ideas, masters of tone?
I think it's a great pickup, but it greatly depends on what type of guitar it's in. I had one in a mahogany bodied RG and it was alright, but it really came to life in a basswood body axe I tried it in. Can you tell us more about the guitar?
the guitar is swamp ash, pretty light. I think the neck pickup just runs out of mids or something because it honestly sounds like a bass pickup.
I'm not really sure it's a great match for a swamp ash body. Out of curiosity, what cap values are in your axe, and how are you EQ-ing your amp?
The air Norton is a bridge pickup so it is obvious that in the neck it's gonna be too hot and dark !
You could try it in the bridge where it belongs and put a real neck pickup or change it for a neck p-u .

I think the vast majority of Air Norton users use it in the neck.
But anyway, if it's in a mahogany/rosewood or similarly dark guitar, I can see how it might be too dark for you.

lmfao -- I think this may go in my sig.
The AN rocks in my guitar...I think that the wood your guitar is made of isn´t that good for this one but I dunno which pup will suit you better.
What tone are you looking for? (music genre)

The Air Norton is a neck pickup first and foremost. DiMarzio's site makes that pretty clear:
quot;Combine the Air Norton#8482; with an Air Zone#8482;, The Tone Zone® or Steve's Special#8482; in the bridge position for a perfect blend of power and tone, or use an Air Norton#8482; in the bridge position with an Air Classic#8482; bridge model in the neck position for a distinctive medium-output blues-rock sound.quot;
Plus, it's not even quot;hotquot; really, it's low or medium output compared to many.

Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell.
its yur personal and subjective taste man and really doesnt matter what other people keep saying bout yur guitar ´s caps and body not being that good.just sell it and get either a duncan 59 or a dimarzio virtual paf neck.
i too do not like the air norton´s tone, look into a thread by wildstar regarding the dimarzio v v pafs it has sound clips of various neck and bridge piickuyps including yours.
If you want bright and shredding in the neck, the Bill Lawrence L-500C is the only choice IMO!!!!! Its brighter, has more clarity, and more of that certain something I have not heard in Duncans, Dimarzio's, EMG's etc!
It's down to the Virtual Paf, Evolution, and Humbucker from hell. If anyone has soundclips please let me know other than wildstar. The Dimarzio website only has a clip from Steve Vai's evolution pickup on one of his songs ;( The Virtual Paf sounds a lot brighter than the Air Norton, but I don't know if it sounds justifiable to spend 70$ when I get better cleans out of my bridge or similar.with the tone pro humbucker. I'm really wanting to hear the Humbucker from Hell as it is even brighter from what I hear. Any soundclips?
Guys...I've decided to go with the L500C Bill Lawrence pickup in the neck for a clean sound the L500XL in the bridge. Thanks everyone. Any sound clips?
FretFire just dropped a Lawrence L500C in the neck of his strat and made a few clips. You can check them out here.
