I currently own a Vox wah wah pedal and although I love the tone (especially compared to the Crybaby reissue I had before), the lack of true bypass and DC outlet is really annoying. It very noticeably sucks the tone out of my guitar when this thing is off. Also, the batteries drain pretty fast since it drains power whenever a cord is plugged in, regardless of whether it's on or not.

Can you guys recommend any reasonably priced replacements that would give me a tone similar to a Vox, but with true bypass and a DC outlet? I've heard that there's mods to fix these problems, but it almost sounds more trouble than it's worth.

Do a search under my name for wah mods and feel welcome to PM me if you like....I can create a wonderful wah for you....

John

Either send yours to John, or upgrade to a Fulltone Clyde, Clyde Deluxe, Teese, or Budda Bud Wah.

I'm reluctant to mention this....

I picked up an Ibanez Weeping Demon this past December and have been all-out impressed with it. Between being true-bypass and full-on tweakable I'm very happy I decided to go with it.

Yeah...stupid name....great pedal. It's worth taking the five minutes to check out.

What's the worst that could happen....you end up liking it?

If you don't want your pedal modded, don't buy the Teese or the Buddah wah...Get the fulltone wah...Best sounding and most vocal wah out there today...I've tryed almost all of them..

I would suggest rather than buying a new wah pedal, having John/STRATDELUXER97 mod yours for you. Although I've never dealt with him there are many on this board that can attest to his great work.

Send it to John, trust me, it will kick ass, mine does!

If you like the tone of the Vox, try using an A/B box to put it in the signal path. You could leave the unit on all the time that way and get rid of the crappy switch most wahs have. True bypass for cheap....Joe

If a guy just wants true bypass on his wah,Fulltone has a drawing on his site and the mods are very easy...You just need a good quality DPDT Stomp Switch and then you follow the drawings...It's better than putting another pedal type device inline of your effects chain...

You need either the Carling or the fulltone switch and you're on your way...

Whereabouts in Florida do you live? It sounds like you've got a great reputation for doing wah mods. I'll probably just try the true bypass mod on my own for now and see how that goes. Do you actually modify the tone of the Vox? I may just have to stop by some time and see some of your work.
