Hey everyone, i'm currently collecting some data for a statistics class, and would appreciate if you would vote on the poll. Do you prefer to play your solid state amp clean or dirty?*Thanks everyone, and if you could, please vote on the tube poll too.*

I love to play it with some Overdrive, just for the more tube-like feeling...

Clean. SS distortion, at least on the amps I've heard, blows. It hurts my hears. No sweetness at all. Good SS distortion can be achieved through pedals though... anyway, clean.

I prefer clean, too. I just can't get the dirty sound I'm looking for with solid state (at least the ones I've played) so I like clean with some good pedals in the mix.

Clean.

Clean... Dirty it's like too agressive.

I voted dirty, but that's because I prefer tube cleans. I also prefer some tube distortion to solid state. So if I was playing a SS amp (which I am) I would prefer to play it with some distortion.

clean.

Well, my JC-120 sound like crap dirty, but I know other folks have better sounding dirty ss amps.

I play my Tech 21 with some dirt on the clean channel and some clean on the dirt channel....

..... so I voted dirty.

CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! Polytone guys, polytone! and Lab series L5 amps....

The clean channels of my peavey XXL rocks!!! it has three modes...way cool!!!

Clean (when occasionally using solid state)... question to you is... what's your alpha level? ;-)

I've been using SS amps for about 3 - 4 years now. I hope that I'll own a killer 100watt tube amp in the near future. My particular amp right now is a marshall 20watt valvestate. puke. I've never used it with the preamp gain past 9 o'clock, as the overdrive has no character, is buzzy and compressed, and overall sounds kinda wimpy. I do have 2 awesome dirt boxes going onto it though (Foxrox ZIM and keeley modded DS1)

I don't own one, but I've always preferred the clean channel in the past. Guess it really depends on the amp though.

Well, I dont use SS amps, but could use the clean channel, net the dirty. Just gets to buzzy for me.

i won't vote because my answer is 'both' equally depending on the needs of the tune i am playing

hahaha i switched from bass to guitar so i was using a solid state 15 watt johnson bass amp and metal zone to it it was definately ghetto but it could blow u away at really low volumes

Clean-
There are so many great sounds you can get with a mix of tube and clean, but you will only get the clear, shimmering non-distrtions chorus off a good ss amp- My favorite combination was a L7 and plexi50 with a shobud fade pedal- Together they were thick and wide, when fading from one to another, as the L7 overpowered the marshal it runed into a brown chorused fender like sound-

Funny thing is I moved to modeling as soon as it became avaiable and have one of the first modleling preamps that allows you to mix models (GP100)- I've slowly replaced just about everthing else, but funny thing is that altough it is technically a SS device, all of the models are too warm to get that clean, broad shimering chorus sound that was so easy on the L7.

I find the clean channel on ss amps more percussive and has more i could say spank to the tone when playing rhythm stuff, it is less warmer and less thicker than tube but i prefer to play a solidstate clean.
