Okay guys don't laugh....

I traded my Samick for a new OLP MM1. It's the copy of Music Man's Axis model; which was formerly the EVH guitar. Mine is trans gold with a veneer or maybe even photo quilttop. No matter, the basswood body feels nice. The neck is much the same as my Albert Lee guitar was. It quot;wasquot; unfinished. That is, until I did the gunstock oil/wax treatment. The neck is now really nice. The pickups aren't even that bad. However, I can never leave well enough alone. I'm planning some major hot rodage to this axe. Check out the pics....

Mine as it is currently....
As it may be....
Keep in mind that the design is from Kisekae. The neck and headstock aren't like what's in the design.

sounds like fun...keep us up to date and get us some real pics!

Butch!!! An EVH avatar and an EVHish guitar. I am shocked!! Not a bad shock, but just shocked. The Olp I played at GC must have been a dud, but I have heard about some other folks that have enjoyed theirs! What is the deal with us Tele guys going to these types of guitars?? LOL

Well said! I have done just what you want to do, hotrodded my OLP MM1, They take a lot of work and you gotta be sure u got one of those few good one's. I changed the pickups to Dimarzio's, HIGHLY suggest the Tone Zone, it works wonders with the wood. I've had offers well over what I payed for that guitar come to me. Also change the tuners and that trem will never go out of tune, I ordered Schaller's from Warmoth for mine. You'll love it and with the right pickups it will thump like a mother!I've tried some OLP MM1's myself and couldn't find a good one. One had the jack plate falling off, the other one had a bad tuner, another had the neck on crooked, and another had issues all over the place. I don't know if that store got shipped the garbage stack of guitars or what but that day there were no good ones. I do dig the colors they have though.

Butch, your avatar rocks!

Thanks guys...

Roy Clark was the guy who made me want to play guitar. EVH is the guy who made me want to get really good at it.

As far as getting a dud or not finding a good one, I just grabbed the one I got. I knew I would have a lot of setting up to do... I'm thinking, however of keeping a humbucking bridge. I might go with a DiMarzio Fred. I have heard that pickup really has a great voice in a basswood body. I really like the feel of this guitar more than any Tele I have owned...

Is that the headstock your MM-1 came with? I thought they were all 4 2?

I had a OLP MM-1 for a few weeks until the nut broke when I changed the strings. I really liked the feel and sound of that guitar - made me sad when I sent it back. Seriously considering a MM-4 someday.

Good luck with your mods

You missed this then....

You're insane! I like it. Not leaving well enough alone is half the reason for getting a low priced axe. You HAVE to hot rod it.

Thanks

I played one at GC that flat out rocked!!!

How 'bout this one:
That's awesome!

I played my MM1 the day I got it when I went to a rehearsal for a concert I was to play in. The concert was last Sunday at Bright Christian Church in Bright, IN. A lot of bands played; each for 20 minutes. The bassist that played with us works at a local Music Man dealer and owns a Sting Ray and a SUB bass. He told me that when he first saw me bring out my MM1, he gave a big chuckle on the inside. After the concert, he came over and told me how much he loved my tone (stock pickups ain't bad...). He said he would never make fun again....

Butch...... Stop fighting it...... get the TELE you know you want it

LOL, actually, the bridge pickup on the MM1 sounds like a good Tele bridge pickup. No kidding....

I still think you're temporarily substituting for what you really want You'll go back to the Albert Lee model...you mention it WAY too much not to get it.

You're more correct than you know..... I am saving my pennies as we speak.
