I am installing a jb humbucker to one volume knob. I keep getting alot of extra noise which I assume is ground related. Since I am just using one volume pot and no tone pots how do I correctly do the ground? I was running the ground from the input jack to the back of the volume pot as well as a ground from the tremelo to the back of the pot. It obviously isn't working so does anyone have any advice or insight?
Thanks in advance
Did you change the jack wiring? If you wire the input jacks tip terminal to ground instead of to the pot terminal you will get hum.
If that isn't the problem then try wiring the JB directly to the output jack. If the hum goes away you have a bad volume pot.
all the grounds should go to one central place (the back of the volume pot). the trem ground wire and the two pup ground wires should all be soldered there. if you are still getting noise, im guessing you have a cold solder joint. clean up the connections and see if that solves the problem
It is a brand new pot and the soldering looks pretty shiny. I have always heard a cold solder looks gray and dull. Thanks for the help thus far.
Brand new pots sometimes but not often have issues that cause them to hum. I'd bypass it anyways just to check it out.
Did you connect5 the black wire on the JB to the pot terminal, the green and plain wires to the pot chassis and connect, solder and tape off the red and white wires?
