As some of you already know, I am looking to put of Texas Hot Custom Bridge in my JV strat. But, in some past reviews the THCB has been forsaken for the Twang Banger and real Tele bridge pickups with modifications. (Perhaps I am suffering from more information than I really need at this point.)

My JV still has the Tex Mex bridge pup in it. I have never played a Tele.

Is the THCB an overwound yet wimpy pickup? What’s wrong with the THCB?

Odds are I am going to love the THCB, ‘cuz I don’t know any better.
I could go with the SSL-52-B or SSL-3?

What are your recommendations?
Do you love/like the Texas Hot Custom Bridge?

There's nothing wrong with it. I prefer it to the Twangbanger myself, though John prefers the Twangbanger. But the Texas Hot Custom is not wimpy in the least! It's fat and ballsy...much more so than any vintage Strat bridge pickup from the 50's and 60's. The Twangbanger is even fatter and ballsier...but the Texas Hot Custom gives chimier and more authentic M amp; B tone when combined with the middle pickup than the Twangbanger. They're both great. Those who prefer the Twangbanger are simply happier with an even hotter bridge pickup than the Texas Hot...that's all. Lew

You probably fell out of your chair laughing when you saw this post. Oh, no! here we go again.

BTW, I haven't had much opportunity to play my strat lately, so I'm trying to make up for it with pickup talk.

And I have a final paper on peptide mass fingerprinting that's due Thursday. This a safe outlet to relieve some stress. Thanks for putting up with me.

Although, I have learned quite alot by being so analytical about this. And it's easier on the wallet.

It sounds perfect. Thanks again. I knew there was something about the Twang Banger that I didn't want. I do want to preserve the great M B notch tone.

Lew...My scenario with the Texas Hot is this....It's great in my red American Deluxe strat(Avatar picture)as is the whole Texas Hot set....In my blue H1 strat however,I found the texas hot just didn't work as well in this guitar,but the TB was great....I always keep an open mind initially on what I want or what quot;shouldquot; work,but sometimes I end up going a different route....I won't say the TH was thin,but I just didn't like it as much as the TB...I had the TB originally in my blue strat before trying the Texas Hot and then I went back to the TB and stayed with it...

It's really just getting the right pickups into the right guitar,but I can't say I favor the Surfers over the Texas Hots and I use em both,plus I also use SSL1s and APS pickups...Just as long as they're Duncan pickups,I'm always happy.... I still also love the fralin SP43,but that axe doesn't get alot of use..

Lew is right in that the Texas Hot bridge makes a better notched position tone with a Surfer or SSL1 A5 middle pickup....And yes....I prefer a stronger bridge position for our Classic rock styles,as I use the bridge position the most,unless we do blues...I then use the neck and neck/middle quite a bit..

You're welcome buddy....Let me promise you this...I use both of the Antiquity Single coils for strat..They are both great and better than anything else you can buy in my opinion...You'll love them!

Hehe I just ordered 2 Texas Hots for the Neck and Mid of my Strat paired with a '59 bridge... let's hope we both get what we want...

That sound's like a rockin' combo with the '59. Very versatile arrangment.

Are you gonna try splitting the '59?

Yes... but I'll have to put the rw/rp mid in the neck and the neck in the mid and reverse their cables or reverse the '59s magnets...

Do any other Texas Hot Custom Bridge users/fans wish to comment on it?
