I'm looking to upgrade the pickups in my Tokai PRS copy. It currently has the stock, decent sounding PAF style humbuckers. I am looking to stay with a PAF flavor, but would like it clearer and smoother. Currently my LP is my high gain monster and I would like this guitar to do the overdriven or classic rock sound. I was thinking of getting a set of 59's, but I can find them bassy in the neck. What other models should I consider for this style guitar?
If you are looking for a clear/smooth PAF style pickup with less bass that a 59 get a set od Seth Lovers and call it a day!
I would personally would go with the Alnico II pro's. I am just not a big Seth Lover fan for some reason.
Alnico II Pro's!

I have an A2 Pro in the neck of my LP and I don't think that's the tone I'm looking for with this guitar. Seth's were another model I was gonna look at.
Jon Moore humbuckers.
I would do either a set of 59's or a Custom 5 in the bridge position and a 59 in the neck position. For even more of a clearer/smoother setup, you could go for a set of Jazz models or do the JB/Jazz combo. You're getting into higher output territory; but I like the tones....
Custom Hybrid w/ an A2 magnet. Output of about 11.5k
GAME OVER.
A2P or pearly gates. For Dimarzio the PAF pros are very good too.
i just took out the stock Tokai pups for the CC/Seth set and its sounds twice as good.....i think the main characteristic of Duncan pickups is that they have great clarity, and organic tone........even their non-vintage output pickups like the CC are clear and have a certain classic vintage vibe to them, just another flavor of vintage tone......the CC has a lot of mids, but it is still more clear than the stock pickups, and more pleasing to my ears all around
i think you would like a Seth set....they are smooth
a set of Pearly Gates sound great in pretty much everything. If you need more beef from the bridge, a PGn/Custom combo would be killer.
a set of jazzes? they might be a bit sharp though..
'59b/PG n
'59b/Jazz n
or antiquities.. ultimate clear
